Or that Darwin's Theory of Evolution is a lie?

Or that man never landed on the moon in 1969?

Or that the Earth sits on the back of a giant turtle and that the stars are tiny Christmas lights in the cosmic ceiling?

I wonder, because people who believe such absurdities display a similar obstinacy to Korean government officials.

No matter what you do, no matter what proof you offer them, you are told implicitly or explicitly that everything you show them is a lie.

Multiple sets of sealed transcripts - a lie.

The actual diploma that they can see and touch - a lie.

They demand to see your school's website and you show it to them - a lie.

They demand to see that the school is accredited, and you show them that website - a lie.

And your official transcript, once opened - obviously a lie.

No matter what evidence you put in front of their face or into their hands, it must be a lie, if you are providing it.

So then they set the bar impossibly high: Prove you have a degree using your school's website.

This is impossible, you tell them.

Their answer: You are a liar. You never graduated from college.

They are the ones who have set the standard of proof, and you meet them, and then they call you a liar!

And in the midst of this twisted thinking, they have the nerve to tell us we should learn the fine art of logic from Koreans! Are we living in a land full of lunatics?

I don't think the average Korean is this crazy. The problem is with the government officials, and not just the ones in Seoul; the local officials can be just as idiotic. But this is a democracy, and it is the Korean people who elect this government. So they bear the ultimate responsibility (yes, just as the American people bear the ultimate responsibility for their government).

Now they have set a new set of items we are to provide and prove. It is like an international scavenger hunt conducted from 10,000 miles away. Get this document, have it notarized, have it apostilled, have it sent to Mr. Kim, have it sent to your school, make copies in triplicate, pass go and visit your consulate, buy plane ticket, fly to Korea, and maybe they will let you in.

OK, so you're back for another year.

Want to lay odds that they make you prove the authenticity of your CRC or other documents every three months using a new set of rules?

And if you don't, you must be a criminal!

Yes, this one is popular belief. Apparently one of the Korean television channels ran one of the conspiracy documentaries that say man never landed on the moon and of course it was taken as gospel.

One of my last lessons at the middle school was about famous people. One of them being Neil Armstrong. SEVERAL AND I DO MEAN SEVERAL students in every class said this was not true. The Americans never went to the moon. They saw it on TV and it was on a news show so it must be true. No one landed on the moon. Sad part is that the Korean Teacher simply agreed with them.

I was flabbergasted and told them there are lots of theories about a lot of things and left it at that as they were getting quite adamant about the fact that NO ONE had ever landed on the moon.

Whatcha ya going do...?

I don't believe man landed on the moon either....

Remember it was Neil Armstrong and his gang who said that you could see the "great wall of China" from outer space....

everyone also believed this - UNTIL the Chinese actually went to outerspace last year and realised it was all a LIE...

^ Isn't that just because since then they have managed to create such a thick layer of smog over china that nobody can see it.

It can be seen from space, the Chinese astronaut was wrong. It cannot be seen from the moon however.

After four years here I don't believe anything Koreans say,so I guess we're even. For them, lieing is an autonomic response, so it's only natural they assume everything else is a lie as well. World Best liars. I'll grant them that.
