If you were to be diagnosed with a serious illness...say, some type of cancer...how much of your medical fees would be covered by your Korean insurance? What if you didn't have insurance?
Anyone know how much it would approximately cost to get a CT scan or ultrasound? With basic insurance? Without insurance? |

In February of last year, I had a bad ole flare up of Crohn's that put me in the hospital for a week. I had numerous x-rays and an MRI, as well as an IV and various meds. With basic insurance, I ended up paying about 700,000. A lot of this was for the hospital bed: in Korean hospitals, you can stay in a room of six for free, a room for three for 30 grand/night and a private room for 300 grand/night. I don't believe the insurance covered the hospital bed, so subtract 210,000 from the total, and you end up with about 500,000. I saw the bill when I checked out and it was nearly 2 million before insurance. Basic insurance will cover quite a bit, and I really hope this helps you out. |

Thanks, man. The info. is for a friend who doesn't have medical insurance and needs to get an ultrasound done...I guess one of the hospitals told her that she would only have to pay 50,000 KRW for the doctor's visit and and another 150,000 KRW for the ultrasound and she thought it sounded too good to be true. |

No problem. Hospital costs are remarkably low here, and I hope everything turns out well for your friend. |
