|
|
My pal has been living in Shinchon for a year, and I've tried in vain to lead him to the hot-spot. We always end up just walking down to Hongdae instead, or getting beer from the convenience store.
How the heck do we get to all the fun, say, from the subway station?
Thanks! |

from the subway, take the exit to Yonsei University. That long two laned road to Yonsei is the heart of all the fun. Behind the Dept. Store is fun, also the street to the right heading to Ehwa is fun. I think the Krispy Kreme at that corner is really fun. |

Krispy Kreme? I heard that's where a lot of Type 2 diabetics hang out. |

You know, it's really sad when people ask for "cool" things to do in a city and the best advice a person can think of is going to a donut shop. Good grief! |

And your help on this thread is what?
Yes, I am a sad person. I went across town to the grand opening of that first KK in Korea a few years ago. Now they are all over the place.
I've been going to Shinchon since 96. Back then Kenny Rogers Roasters was the big thing. Bars come and go, but KK, TGIF and others brought Shinchon into the 21st century. The thing about Shinchon is the atmosphere. Just walk around the streets. If you want bars, find one you like and keep going before it closes down.
The OP might have it right. Get a beer at a convenience store, and watch the humanity walk by. |

there are two cool bars in Shinchon that dont see many foreigners. One has a ridiculous collection of records, and the other is a cave-like place with a chill DJ. 1st one is Tae-bar, it's in Korean though, but in chinese characters i think, so no sign. Go out exit 3 (McDonalds), walk past Mcdonalds and take a right at the big 4 way-intersection you get to and at Krispy Creme cross the street and walk past a kalbi restaurant on the right and take the alley-way next to the restaurant. It looks abandoned, but walk past the parking lot and random little hole-in-the-wall places. Keep your eyes peeled and a little cave-like door will show up on the right.
The other one is T1-T2, and it is right across from Chois Tacos. Use same directions as before, but keep going past krispy kreme just a bit. Cross the road at the taco place, and it is in a large building, downstairs.
If you wanna get trashed cheap and request music, go out exit 3, walk past Mcdonalds, and walk past that 4-way intersection i mentioned. When you see the pizza hut on the left, cross the road and walk into the mess that is shinchon. Woodstock, Mike's Cabin, Doors Bar, 33 (The Bar), lots of dirty bars for a great time. |
