Any one with an F-5 out there?
What are the benefits/advantages over an F2-1 (which i have had for 2 years)?
Cheers. |

I have one.
You don't have to renew it.
It might be easier to own your own business etc. I don't know about that though.
You can vote in local elections.
It's a permanent residence visa. The F2-1 is a married to a Korean visa. |

I have one too.
I think the biggest difference for me is intangible. I sponsor myself on the F5. On the F2-1 my wife was my sponsor. I prefer owning myself:)
The advantages listed are good too. I took advantage of the right to vote and cast a vote in the local elections this year, voting for the mayor as well as the people in my Gu.
Another advantage is that you will not have to wait with all the cattle, er, I mea foreigners when you pass through customs at Incheon. You can follow the Koreans and go through with them. That means much shorter lines. |

I forgot that one. Thanks for pointing it out.
Has anyone done this and had someone tell them that they're in the wrong line?

What I am interested to know is if the officers said any little thing like , "you are in the wrong line," or something like that and if people looked at you funny before going through.
Also, I have it and asked about returning after a longish period and you still need to get a returning resident visa before going away for more than a year. In essence, it's still works like a temporary or probational resident visa.
So, in my mind it still sucks. |

That really depends on the flight. There are a lot of flights into Korea where the Korean passengers far outnumber the foreign passengers who are not transiting. I find the lines for foreigners are usually shorter and its more often the problem that the Korean citizens are going through those lines to avoid the longer Korean citizen lines. |

If there are long lines, I go through the desks for flight crew/diplomats. They are normally more than happy to obliged, especially when they see that I have my handful!!!!! |
