I just moved to the Sinsa/Nonhyun station area. Can anyone recommend a good gym in the area.. I just signed up for a cheap gym in the neighborhood(Tomato Fitness), but I don't think I'll stay there that long. I don't really wanna get a membership at California fitness because my Korean friends are telling me that the franchise may go under.
Any help is appreciated, |

If you go to Hakdong station and go out the exit for Hilltop Hotel, and walk to the top of the hill (past Hilltop Hotel) you'll come to my gym, Dotori Fitness.
It's pricey (around 100 per month), but they're negotiable and they have a lot of specials for new memberships (first month free, pay for 3 months, get two months free, etc, etc). As far as I know, I'm the only white person that goes there, so if you see me, say hi.
It's brand spankin' new (about 6-8 months old), is a lot more spread out than California Fitness, and has a Jjimjilbang in the locker room which they keep pretty clean (the best part of my day is the work out and sauna during my lunch break). The only thing I don't like is that they have a Smith machine instead of a squat rack, which kinda pisses me off, but the people are super nice.
Oh yeah, and they'll let you work out for free once to check it out (CA Fitness will let you work out for a couple weeks free too, so you might try that too).
Added bonus: A lot of room salon girls live in this neighborhood, and if you find yourself walking around after dark you'll see some amazingly beautiful women getting their hair done and getting in and out of their pimps' cars.
Also, there are several acceptable-looking gyms that are probably a lot cheaper that I've seen around Nonhyeon station that could be worth checking out and you don't have to walk up that stupid hill.
Oh, one more great thing about Dotori is they have kind of a snack bar where they sell coffee, various juices, etc. I live on the grilled chicken salads and sandwiches (made with wheat bread!). They've helped me lose a significant amount of weight since I started eating my dinners there after work (my office is nearby), rather than going all the way home for dinner. Less than 5 bucks gets you a chicken salad or chicken sandwich and three boiled eggs. |
