My Korean girlfriend claimed that she could determined what people blood types are according to their characters and vice versa and each blood type has different personality, i.e O type are outgoing and B or A type are conservative. Where I am from I never heard such, she also happened to be a senior registra/resident. So whats your take on this?

I have no idea what a "senior registra" is, but her ideas are not uncommon here. I've been asked my blood type here more times than I can count. I've also had my palm read by multiple people without asking them too, and I've had my head read.

well a resident or registra are doctors being train at hospital, in korea it usually take 3 years to become qualified; she's in her last year onto becaming a qualify doctor. On several occasion she asked me what my blood type was but I truly dont know she followed and claimed if she knows what my type is she could determined my personality and character which was B type she claimed because I am an introvert. Also when i had an pt job interview last year everything went well until the the boss went on and asked what my blood type was. Are these blood types things for real or is it just bs?

Tell that since she's so good with only half the information, try to tell your character/personality with just the RH Factor and tell her just that. Don't mention the letter.

This old superstition that is based on complete crap!

However, many Koreans & Japanese believe it completely- that a person's blood type determines their personality.

It actually comes from a female Japanese writer- can't be bothered to look up the further info right now- who had no medical training whatsoever. Anyway, she started putting forth this philosophy over 70 years ago and it stuck in Japan & Korea.

There is no medical or physiological basis for this theory, but it is based on nazi-style theories of eugenics which appealed to the Japanese in their belief of a "superior race". Some Koreans believe in that superior race crap, too, and we've seen the undying popularity of nazi themes here.

Like "fan death", there are many doctors here who believe the blood type/personality myth. Many, many of the population do.

Your friend may get stubborn about it, but a quick search on the net can provide a lot of info to debunk the myth.

PS- another thing here and in Japan is the star profiles in teen magazines and on the net, along with information on the celebrities, include their blood type. This helps to perpetuate the myth to the younger generation.

Try this:

When you meet someone who believes this myth, ask them "Where/When was this discovery of blood types & personalities made?".

Absolute guarantee that they will have no idea.

You may get the old last resort argument "It's Korean culture".

If so, you can then explain to them that it's not Korean culture. It's Japanese, just like White Day & Hello Kitty!

i absolutely hate when they ask me this, and i'm very insulted when a quiet girl sitting at the dinner table suddenly blurts out, "your blood type is B!" after quietly observing me for the past ten minutes.

i don't tell them my blood type. i don't want to give them the satisfaction of knowing. it's total bullshit. there's more than three types of personalities in this world.

Okay, finally let it get the best of me and looked it up again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_types_in_Japanese_popular_culture

Quote:
Ultimately deriving from ideas of historical scientific racism, the popular belief originates with publications by Masahiko Nomi in the 1970s. The scientific community dismisses such beliefs as superstition or pseudoscience.

Quote:
The craze faded in the 1930s as its unscientific basis became evident. It was revived in the 1970s with a book by Masahiko Nomi, a lawyer and broadcaster with no medical background. Nomi's work was largely uncontrolled and anecdotal, and the methodology of his conclusions is unclear. Because of this he has been heavily assailed by the Japanese psychological community, although his books are phenomenally popular.

Okay, so I got a little mixed up- the writer was a man and he repopularized the belief in the 1970's.
Although the myth has been debunked by most of the medical community, it still reigns widely and seems to have infected the medical profession of Korea, in which many of the doctors also profess that you can die from sleeping in a closed room with an electric fan on.

Stubborn superstition defeats rational intelligence once again!

If you ever get sick, don't call her. Get a REAL doctor. And yes, it is BS.

Ask her about AB blood types.

Everytime I tell a Korean girl I'm AB, they freak out.

Like several instances with medical students in class- showing up with no pen, paper, or book. All they have is their clothes and cell phone.

I ask "Do you want to be a doctor?"

They say "yes"

I reply "I hope you are never my doctor!"

Joke: Q- What do you call someone who graduates from medical school
with a C- average?
A- Doctor!
