I heard it runs past the normal midnight on new years but would like someone to confirm. Anyone know for sure? Thanks

Koreans don't really celebrate on New Year's Eve. It's not a big drinking event (not more than any other Monday night), so I would be surprised if the subway schedule were different.

Obviously someone who's never been in the middle of Jongro on New Year's Eve. I and my then-gf almost got crushed to death in the throng in 2000.

In answer to the OP, the subways and buses ran for several hours extra on NYE the last couple years, but of course buses could not get close to the Jongro venues, so you'll have to walk a bit to catch one.

Yep, I was wrong. Sorry about that.
Come to think of it, I've actually never been in Korea for New Year's Eve before, but Koreans have never expressed any special interest in it in our conversations over the last three years. The subway did run until 2 o'clock last night. Did you have a good time?
