Two foreign teachers picked up for pot and ecstasy -- right before Christmas. That has to burn.

Police in Incheon and Gyeonggi-do have arrested two foreigners teaching English in elementary schools on suspicion of using illegal drugs and prescription drugs.
The Incheon Police Department announced on the 25th that it had arrested Canadian A (25), an English teacher at elementary school H, on suspicion of smuggling hashish and marijuana and smoking it.
According to police, from the 10th to the 17th of December A is suspected of smoking the hashish on the street near his home in the Gyesan-dong area of Incheon. He is also suspected of receiving a package from Canada containing 5.79 grams of marijuana.
On the same day the Incheon police arrested American M (35), a teacher at elementary school S, on suspicion of using the illegal drug ecstasy.
M is accused of purchasing 50,000 won worth of ecstasy from a man in his late 30s whom he happened to meet in Itaewon in October and of smoking marijuana in his house.
M is suspected of going to a club in the Hongdae area of Seoul in November with his girlfriend, 28-year old Kim, a teacher in the same school, and slipping ecstasy into her drink after getting drunk. |

Ah ha. 'Miss Kim' probably took the drugs volluntarilly, freaked out or got found out by the law or her parents and told them that her bf slipped it into her drink.
Otherwise her bf is an a'hole.

What kind of asshats get weed sent to them in the mail? That last line where the other guy's suspected of giving his girlfriend E also reeks of asshattery if it is true.

This isn't a dictatorship. No sentences are put out without trials.
Unfortunately, for the guy who got it in the mail, they are going to trial.
I know him as a friend of a friend. I had no idea about this kind of business going on though. It's really unfortunate because he's a really smart and really kind guy (although apparently not that smart). He even saved my butt when I got jumped from behind by a GI in Hongdae once.
He's probably looking at 5-10 years in a kimchi clinker now.
Remember people, it's not worth 5-10 years for what is worth $50 in Canada. Stick to soju.

If one is lucky then they will be deported and receive a travel ban on Korea. For example, a teacher in Sept. was able to do this by apparently ratting out a dealer and so on. Unfortunately, this guy was busted for international smuggling.
My friend was in Gumi about 4 or 5 years ago when there was a major bust of 20 teachers or so. Apparently several of them were handed down very heavy sentences and are still in jail here. |

Even in Korea, one would NEVER get 5-10 years for a hit of hash, or a drop of E.
I personally know half a dozen who have been caught over the years WITH MUCH MORE, red handed, and some face 2 weeks.
I can show you a video of a guy getting caught smuggling in almost a kilo of hash... and he got 2 years.
And i also know those guys from Gumi. None are still in jail.
I'm not saying jail , fine or deportation is unlikely, but lets get with reality here.

Morons. Bet they'd never risk being caught with drugs in Singapore. |
