Seriously, there is no more reason to download movies or TV shows. I've been streaming for the past few months, finally got caught up on all 3 seasons of Battlestar Galactica, and I can attest to the fact that this works fine, especially since Korea has such fast internet connections.

The obsolescence of bit torrent has yet to become widely known, but the implications are staggering. I'm telling you, you can watch any episode from most TV shows past or present or any movie at any time *without waiting*. And if you can connect your TV set to your computer, you have basically have the same home entertainment system that God or Santa Claus uses. Kind of makes DVDs and TV channels a bit worthless right? Obviously, this is not for those squemish about breaking intellectual property laws, and I'm sure eventually the media and law enforcement will be all over it, but for now it's basically heaven. Try it out.
You're welcome |

Streaming media services like the one you described are far below the DVD quality that most downloaders are used to. In all seriousness, we just download while we're sleeping & can do the exact same thing you just mentioned in dvd quality than horrific streaming.

I find the video quality to be pretty good usually. To be honest, I use it more for TV shows than movies...I guess it just doesn't really matter to me that much if The Office or How I Met Your Mother is HD Quality. I find the quality good enough for my needs, though of course not everyone will agree.
Mostly I just think it's COOL. Imagine you are entertaining one or more people. Instead of flipping the channels trying to find something cool, or pointing them to your DVD rack, you instead boot up your computer and offer to play your guests anything that has ever been filmed...ever. Pimp, right? And isn't much of home electronics merely showing off?
Anyway I think it's cool. What a wonderful time to be alive! |

Until I can watch streaming video at DVD quality then I will continue to download.
Streaming video is getting better, but it's still not very satisfying. It's okay for a quick fix of some sit-com........but if you want to watch a big epic movie......no way. |

Sadly it doesn't. It's just a fluff piece by some reporter who appears to know nothing about torrents, downloading, P2P, or video streaming.
I think VOD streaming services are still a little ways off. And besides, if the networks try using ad-supported services and banners and commercials, somebody is always 10 steps ahead. Someone will just use vid-capture, splice out the ads, and then upload it as an ad-free vid.
Wired magazine had a good article a few years ago about this. Basically the 'hidden' torrent sites had an extensive network of people working in movie studios and TV networks who are always able to burn copies of the internal DVD anyways. |

There are already services in Korea that accomplish essentially the same thing. Using the proper program (gom player) and the proper download site you can start watching your video immediately after you start downloading. And by immediately, I mean in the time it takes from you to click download to the time it takes to move your cursor over the video file to double-click it. Oh, and unlike streaming, you will have downloaded the video and can do whatever you want with it when you're done watching it.
Edit: And I'm not talking about low-resolution copies either. I'm talking about the same videos that most people get from torrent sites. |

My problem with "streaming" is that it's too choppy to watch. It freezes. I guess I don't have a fast enough internet connection. So, I stopped doing it. I just download using Bittorrent now. Like the guy said above, you satrt a download before you go to bed and often when you wake up in the morning it's done.
And most of the shows were crap and the selection not very wide when I last checked out streaming last year. |

streaming does you no good if you want to load downloaded tv shows into your PMP or Ipod..
also, I like to build collections of certain shows to take with me while I am "offline"
So downloading is here to stay my friend.
dont get me wrong.. sometimes I watch streaming stuff just so I dont have to deal with the time to wait (not so fast Korean connection) or maybe its something I am mildly interested in seeing |
