Any ex Korean TEFL'ers here now teaching in Japan that were able to make the transition from Korea to Japan? For example, was it hard to land a job or easier since you had teaching experience and were only coming from Korea? How much money would you recommend for start up costs? I figure 3 months salary minimum would do it. But just how saturated is the EFL market in Japan now since Nova went t*ts up - Like in places such as Osaka and Tokyo, for instance?
I'm curious if the fall out from Nova (4,000 - 6,000 teachers lost their jobs) made it pretty much impossible to find a descent job in Japan now.
Do you know / have you spoken with many NOVA teachers about the situation? What's the word on the street? |

The full effect of Nova hasn't been reached yet as there were many of the teachers that have got their savings and are looking for work using various assisted living plans from bigger named apartments that gave them discounts as a way for them to stay in the country and try to get a job. Still, it is pretty saturated from what my friends say in the country.
There are still jobs if you wait for them. By wait for them I mean start searching now and wait for their replies. I didn't get replies to my resumes for months even after the companies stated they needed people right away. |

| Japan is the biggest market in th world. Korea pales in comparison. It's so hard to measure, but if you go to Japan and have experience and, you should be able to get a job within a few months. If you can't, there is a reason why, and it's not the job market, it's you! |

That's what I was thinking. Even with the glut of EFL teachers from NOVA, the English teaching market is quite large. The demand was / has been always there, IMO. Particularly places like Tokyo and Osaka.
I haven't taught there for years and don't have any contacts there to help me out. So while I'm very interested in a possible move, I'd be going in as a "newbie" almost again.
Japan just turns my crank and I'd love to be there but not without realistic expectations regarding teaching opportunities. |

| How does one get a job in Japan. I haven't seen any recruiters or jobs like I do in/for Korea. |
