I come from just outside of cheese country, which is Wisconsin, USA.
I'm trying to contact a few of the cheese makers there in hopes that they will ship here and will reduce shipping costs if I buy in bulk. I'm waiting on responses, so it's still up in the air. Cheese is about $6.00 a pound for mild cheddar, provolone, and colby or co-jack. It's a bit more for aged cheddar and provolone. They also carry swiss, gouda, and things like maple syrup, sausages, and many other items.
If anyone in the daegu area is interested, let me know. I don't know what 'bulk' means to them, but I did ask what shipping costs might be if we purchase 20 pounds or more, or just about 9 kilos for those who can't decipher American and English measurements.
Again, I don't have any answers yet, but I am hopeful. There are many cheese sellers in Wisconsin, and because of the size of the maunfacturers, it is relatively cheap. You're not getting any Shropshire Blues, Wensleydales, or Leicesters, but what you are getting are cheeses that will make your home-made Mexican and Italian foods so much better, and the stuff that makes a sandwich, a sandwich.

Cheers,

I might be in for a pound of chedar and a pound of gouda, especially if it's smoked.
BTW, the English also use pounds, several types in fact. |

Yes, I did say the English use pounds.
I think I can get smoked gouda and cheddar and provolone. Mild cheddar is kind of like what one would use in cooking. Sharp cheddar in the States is just a bit stronger than Bega (Australian) mild, if you know what that is like.
I'll see what I can find out. Please email me so that I can keep track of everyone without having to wade through Dave's

Sharp, medium, and mild cheddars, Wensleydale, Singletons Red Leicester, Mascarpone, bega, edam, mozzarella, parmesan, brie, camembert, provolone, gouda, swiss, pepper jack, monterey jack, and colby jack can be found at Costco here. Same with sausages and maple syrup.

Haddon House and Hannam Market sell many varieties as well. Including cottage cheese.

Thanks,
I've been to Costco. The prices are much higher than the States for cheese. My hope is that we can defray shipping costs somewhat by buying in bulk.
I'm not buying a Costco membership either because I would only use it for cheese and spices.
Thanks for the link though.

| Would love a good sharp cheddar, or possibly some havarti. Keep me appraised -- if it can be done I'm in. |

Ahh, cheese. I used to spend summers in the Sheboygan/Elk Heart Lake/ Plymouth area. Once had a mighty fine 24yo Sharp Cheddar.
I'd kill for a Sheboygan Brat! |

Fried cheese curds are soooo good. I am having a cheese induced heart attack thinking of them. |

You mentioned in your OP that mild cheddar and co-jack are 6 dollars a pound. A two-pound block of either at Costco is under 10,000 won. |

The Costco delivery companies in Korea are charging 12,000won for 2lbs of cheddar. That works out to $6 per pound. Sorry, but I just don't understand the logic of intl shipping the same thing, at the same price, and having to wait for that shipment and coordinating the distribution of it with other foreigners, when a simple trip to your nearest Costco will get the same result and same price minus the hassle.
While we are on this subject regarding the price of Costco's cheese, here are some random prices of cheese that they sell and their weights. You guys can then compare the overseas price and if its worth shipping:
Kirkland Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Kirkland Medium Cheddar Cheese
Kirkland Mild Cheddar Cheese
12,900won
903g
Kirkland Monterey Jack Cheese
11,200won
907g
Tillamook Pepper Jack Cheese
Tillamook Monterey Jack Cheese
Tillamook Colby Jack Cheese
12,500won
907g
Singletons Red Leicester Cheese
14,200won
400g
Singletons Mild Red Cheddar
13,800won
400g
Singletons Mature White Cheddar
15,000won
400g
Belgioioso Sliced Mild Provolone
17,300won
907g
President Brie
14,400won
555g
Gouda
15,400won
3x200g packs |

| Importing cheese is not wise. Plenty of cheese here, high price but competitively priced. |
