|
|
Hello,
I've heard that there is a subway card that one can buy in Seoul, for around 40,000, which is cheaper than just using the T-money card.
Does anyone have any info on this? |

I have one. 40,000원 for 60 rides= 666.67원 per trip. With a T-Money you're looking at 900원 minimum.
The only catches are you can't use it for the bus and the number resets every month, meaning you have 30 days to use your 60 trips.
For me though it's worth it- I take at least 3-4 rides a day during the week.
On the top right it says '한국스마트카드' (why not 똑똑한 plus whatever the Korean word for 'card'? Konglish annoys me). In the middle and in larger font it says '정기 승차권' |

thanks a lot. yes, it makes much more sense to get one of these cards. considering that a trip is minimum 900, and i'm going to work and back every work day, and always going somewhere on my days off. that's at least 60 trips a month.
should this be a sticky? |

| How does that card work for transfers? Still just one ride if it would be 100 or 200 won extra on a T-Money? |

It may be because smart card is a patented item and they are calling it by it's proper name in Hangul. Didn't 비 have some trouble when he came to the U.S. and translated his name and it turned out there was already a band called Rain?
The larger text merely means fixed time passenger card.
정기/定期=a fixed term
승차/乘車=a passenger taking a train or car
권/券=a chit, a note |

You can transfer in the subway system no problem, you don't scan the card to get to another line. But like another poster said, you can't use them on the buses, which is bullshit. |
