That's what 2 separate foreign friends were told on 2 separate occasions when applying for an F5visa in Daegu.
'Don't bother. It's not necessary.'

How's that for lazy?

the eye,

The easiest way to get one is if you are married to a Korean. If not, yes it will probably be difficult. Give us some details why you think you can't. The post is a little vague.

a link to Marmot - the useful comments you have to scoll down for (such as the quoted requirements, and the reality of trying to get one)

You call that useful, it's about the same as any Dave's ESL thread.

When did i say it was about me?
It's about 2 foreign friends, married to Korean women for more than 5 years who were denied visas because immigration said ut wasn't necessary.

He didn't even take the service number slip from their hands.

the eye,

Sorry I misunderstood then. Just to clarify, did they actually apply and get turned down or just go in and told no they couldn't get one?

The only reason I ask is because sometimes you get an immigration officer that's pissy. One way around it (if this is the case) is to try another immigration office. Just a suggestions.

And you don't have to ever go back to immigration to get your stamp of approval every 2 year or whatever. You also don' thave to pay the re-entry VISA stuff. And it cannot be taken away from you in cases of divorce.

"Necessary or not, I'll be applying for it just the same." then refuse to leave the seat.

got mine with no hassles - and yeah not having to go back to immigration is sweet as is going through the Korean lines upon entry at the airport.

However, I will need to go back to immigration when my passport expires in the summer - damn Canada and 5 year passports, why can't we have 10 years like other countries.

You can vote on an F-5 and it's open ended. Besides, for the visa fee...the money is better in my pocket than theirs.

You can vote on an F-5 in the local election, not in the general election.

I didn't know that they could refuse visa applications? I thought they could only refuse granting a visa, but not to receive one..

Most curious.

From what the eye said it sounds more like a refusal of service then refusal of the visa itself. That's why I recommended going to another immigration office.
