Does anyone work there? Can you tell me what their kindergarten, pre-pik and pik programmes are like?

Do you have a term/semester system? If a child becomes 4 in November, can she start in December? If there is a semester system, what are the term dates? Is it possible for a not-quite 4 year old to start a bit earlier?

Ideally we are sending Letty to an International School but she won't be able to go until she is completely 4, not 3 and 11 months or something.. before that, I am thinking I'd like her to start something..

Any info would be very welcome and appreciated.

If it's in Daejon you don't want to work there. Look for the threads "Foreigners you are being watched" and "Daejon situation" in the job-related discussion.

Um... this has nothing to do with teaching there. This is to do with finding a kindergarten for my daughter.

Thanks, anyway.

If you're in Daejon you still might want to check out those threads. Little America doesn't have a good reputation for how it treats their employees, and do you want your daughter taught by unhappy, disgruntled teachers? Just a thought. Good luck, sorry I didn't read your post more carefully.

I work at one of the branches in Daejeon. I have had students in class that were as young as 33 months. The ages are based on Korean ages, so I think as long as she is 5 years old korean age she will be fine. I think I remember you said she turned three in 2007. So she was 4 korean age in 2007 and now in 2008 she is 5 korean age so she should be fine to start this year. The new year starts in March and the spots are filling up fast at our branch.

Hmm.. interesting.

Are you treated as badly as zizi seems to claim??

Would my daughter be able to go straight to the pre-PIK class or does she still need to go to the first level?

At the branch I work at no one is treated badly. We get everything we are supposed to except pension. And compared to what we do get, for me at least, it is not worth the fight we would have over the pension. I have renewed my contract 4 times, another lady renewed her three times before she left, another teacher is on his second contract, another teacher just resigned for another year, and two other teachers are planning to resign when there contracts end. So this school had always treated the foreign teachers right contrary to what other people on this board like to say.

The system is set up with all 5 year old students in the same class. The Pre-PIK doesn't start until the students are six years old. The classes for 5 year olds has 7 cycles of 35 minutes each. They have Korean Kindy teachers for 4 cycles, native speakers for 2 cycles, and a korean english teacher for 1 cycle. So for about half the day they are taught in Korean and about half the day they are taught in English. I am considering sending my son there next year when he is old enough (He is only 27 months now). I like the idea of it helping him learn Korean and English both.

If you are looking for a kindy that will teach your daughter all in English, I think you should check our Poly school. If I understood some mothers correctly, they teach the 5 year olds in only English for teh entire day, but I am not sure.

Thanks for the info.

Actually, what you have described sounds perfectly fine. My daughter is tri-lingual in English, Korean and Cantonese Chinese, so half in Korean and half in English sounds good.

Do you mind PMing me the branch you work at? I'd like to check it out, may be.

Thanks a lot.

So, you've worked there for five years and haven't recieved pension? That's $6000 you decided not to fight for. Either your job is exceptional or you are not very smart. Teachers like you are the reason others get screwed.

I have plans reguarding pension just not going to mess up my sweet job right now. Maybe when i leave I will pursue it. BTW I enjoy only teaching 3 hours a day and making more money than most people who work in a hagwon and teach for 6 hours.

There are a hell of a lot of things much more important to me than a few lousy thousand dollars. Some people focus on money and their greed for money that they lose sight of what is important.

relax and enjoy yourself more.

I have heard that the branch in Cheonan is absolutely horrible. One of the higher ups is extremely abusive and overbearing and has the nerve to claim he is a Christian. I've had two friends who worked there and could wait to get out of that place. I have actually known three people who worked at the Cheonan branch and none had anything good to say about Little America. The place may be little minded, but there is nothing American about the way they do business there.

Isn't this the same school that was involved in the banner campaign? Everyone on the board was up in arms about that at the time, has that incident been forgotten already?

Cant vouch for the Chonan Branch. It is a totally different school, in a different city, with a different owner. But I'm sure there are good schools and there are bad schools. There is a Little America school in Bucheon that the Native teachers were happy at and they had no problems. These other schools are only Little America in name. They pay the big man money to use the name, but there the similarities end.

I have heard horror stories about ECC schools too, but the ECC branch I worked for was pretty good.

Ny branch put up the banner signs. When I saw them I mentioned how bad they were and the incorrect grammar to my boss. She took the signs down that day. I almost quit over that one. Very Happy
