ok, this is a definite newb question...

do korean's like their showers as fast and cold as everything else in life?

i think my waterheater might be broke as i only get about 3 min worth of slightly hotter than lukewarm water. and thats only if i cut off the cold water to the faucet. i have the standard thermostat on the wall and i've cranked it all the way up to 45c, which is the highest it goes, and let it sit on the hot water setting overnight, thinking that its just old and needs over night to cook up some hotwater. no dice...i've been here a week and have learned to get by with quick slightly warm one min showers, but i'm really hoping its a water heater problem and not a cultural thing.

Water heater problem, I'd say. Most boilers heat the water as fast as you use it, and are quite effective. You might have to turn off the floor heating before the tap water will be hot, though.

Many thermometers have a setting for 'fast heat' for showers. Copy down the words next to the various buttons and take it in to work when you ask about this problem. Better yet, draw a diagram of the thermostat.

Or snap a good photo. It seems like every Korean boiler has its own quirks. It's not cultural; you should be able to get a good shower. There are, however, a lot of buildings with sketchy plumbing.

I had the same problem... only turn the fosset half one so there is less pressure and turn it to all the way to the left. It gives you a couple more minutes of hot water

also I had a similar problem...

Sometimes the water gets low or runs out in the heater...

there is usually a small valve or tap that you can turn and it fills the heater up with water.

you will know its full when the water pours out of the overflow.

Stop filling and reset the power button. See if that helps.

the thermostat has english printed on the buttons so i'm pretty sure i'm using the right controls.

mostly just wanted to make sure it wasn't some kind of cultural thing before i went to my admin office about a broken boiler.

there are a few other things in the apartment that need fixing and i wanted to compile a list and get them all done at once instead of going back to him every week when i found something new.

thanks guys.
