I have researched a bit and Japan processes its own Police Checks for teachers without the Apostille
Vietnam requires Police Checks - no Apostille
Thailand often requires it but no Apostilles
I believe Korea is the only country requiring the Apostille |

Aside from the expensive and time-consuming hassle, the ludicrous aspect is that CRC often cannot be obtained with an official signature in the U.S. so the issuing government agency will not certify their authenticity and they cannot be directly apostilled. For example, this is the case with the FBI CRC and some state CRCs.
Otherwise, we're swearing to the authenticity of a document (by doing a jurat) and, hell, we could just as easily do that at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul or through any ordinary notary public in the U.S. |
