I went to Cambodia in August. Inland around Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are fine, just a few showers. Forget about the coast |

^ Unless you are caught in a flash flood on a waterfall at a major tourist spot and are swept away to die.
Or go caving in flash flood areas and get killed or spend the night 80 foot up on a ledge. |

In Bangkok and the North the heavy rain doesn't start until September. August should be fine.
In the South the Phuket side has heavy rain in August, but the Samui side is really nice.
The really bad months are March, April, May (incredible hot) and Sept, Oct (too much rain). August is like a fringe season between the hot and wet.
Don't know about Cambodia. |

I went to Cambodia a year after Lemongirl in August and had an awesome time but the weather wasn't as helpful as it could have been. A lot of my stuff got wet when a river passed through my room in Sihnoukville and I spent less time on motorbikes than I intended, but it was still a great holiday. If you just want to relax the rain doesn't matter. If you want to tan or ride motorbikes then August is probably a bad time to go though.
(I've also been in early December. That was a much MUCH better time to go weather-wise) |

If you go during the low season you may have to deal with a few showers but since the weather is so hot it doesn't really matter. On another note the hotel prices are cheaper during the low season. If you are going just to hang out and don't really care about meeting other foriegners it is the perfect time. I stayed in the Tipa and the Seaview at Ao Nang beach in Krabi for -$20 per night and had my own bungalow. The accomodations were nice and there is a dive shop that does boat dives (~$50 for 2 dives w/equpiment) by the Seaview. |

I went to Thailand last August and Vietnam (not Cambodia, true, but just for reference) this August.
Both were lovely. Sometimes rain, but no big deal.
OK, there was ONE day I was soaked, soaked, soaked in Bangkok. My passport actually has a few leaky, smudged stamps from it. |

Dude, if your serious about traveling dont worry about the dam weather. Pack your bags, and get out there.
Stop faffing about little things like that, its all about the adventure and the unknown!
Grab the bull by the horns, jump on and ride like the wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
