I arrived in Korea at the end of August last year. I left my first job because director didn't honor contract. Got fired from my second job by a director who has no idea of working with foreigners and has totally unreasonable expectations. I did make a fatal flaw and I know that now (got angry when I shouldn't have).

Have a new job I'm supposed to start next Friday (Feb. 1). Can I transfer my visa to the new job without having to do a visa run, do criminal check, etc.?

Does anyone know about this? I'm being told I'll have to do another visa run to Japan for the new job. If I can get around this, it would be great.

Either the third time's the charm or three strikes and I'm out, and I am ever hopeful that this third time is the charm. I really want to stay in Korea.

Please feel free to pm me or email me at elliemk at mindspring.com (my preferred method of contact). Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Editing this post - I've been told that you have to have 6 or 9 months at your current job to transfer visas. Also, Korean immigration Web site talks about changing jobs more than twice. Does that include me? Sorry if these questions sound dumb, but that's exactly how I feel right now.

elliemk, I'm somewhat in a similar position.
I have left my current (previous) job, and while trying to organise another job I've been told I needed to have stayed at my previous job for 6, 7, or 9 months (differing figures from each person), and I was there for 5.

Herein lies the rub, I've been pretty slow off the ball with organising docs, and am also unsure about the whole process. Time for me is ticking, and No one (from recruiters, to prospective schools, and immigration) can give me an answer.

Not to mention, once my visa is cancelled and I have the exit order...If i don't have my docs in hand to go on a visa run, do I have to go home and wait around for them? Advice please.. and sorry if i've taken over the thread.

welcome to the korea immigration service website.

as you know through press release,
the changed new regulation of E2visa take effect on December 15, 2007.

but, the Korea Immigration Service has granted in Korea three months grace periods for the E-2 teaching visa holders to prepare the criminal record checks.

so until march 15th, 2008, E-2visa holder who want to extension of residence with the same employer or change working place(after finished more than 10months of contract and agreement with the previous employer)don't need the criminal record check and health check.

in your case, it is possible to transfer public school with the required documents.

the required documents are passport, alien card, application form, new contract, business registration paper, reference(new employer's guarantee paper), release aggrement(contains change to a public school), fee(90,000won)

thank you.

The aboce is the reply I got from Kimmi when I asked about transferring to a public school. However the public school I want to transfer to wants me to submit a criminal check all the same.

Thanks, Blade. Looks like I will have to go to Japan for a visa run after all. Sad
