A Uni that I applied to has asks me to get my degree and transcripts translated into Korean and then notarized. Has anyone heard of this? If so, where can I go to get this done?

Pft. Why should you do this? Must be a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllly good univeristy if they can't find someone, oh I dunno, ON CAMPUS to translate it.

What a bunch of douche bags.

Agreed. If they have any English teachers there at all, I'm surprised they want this done. Tell them you will provided notarized copied (always notarized copies, never the original!) and they can do what they wish with them, including getting them translated.

LOL

I would probably suggest not working there then. If they aren't even able to read a transcript in English, just imagine all of the other fun you'll have trying to communicate for the rest of the year.

My last university wanted this also. They translated 4 pages of transcripts as well as my degree (the dept. head it for me).

In most cases, it's very common to find that the hiring committees cannot read your transcripts, so they want to see what you studied.

Not a huge thing

i don't think the issue is so much that they want it translated, but that (a) they want the FT to do it for them instead of getting someone in-house to do it and (b) it has to be notarised for some reason.

they should do it themselves or get f*cked.

If it's a university language center, you're better off teaching in a high school. A "language center" is nothing more then a glorified hogwan using the university's name to add credibility to it. They often teach children, excessive amounts of classes and poor vacation times.

If you are talking a department job (as mine was when we were offered 2 year contracts), then you're going to be teaching credit classes and it is worth going through the hassle over.

It's a regular uni job. I'll probably do it. I just need to know where. I heard there are as few places near the Canadian Embassy. If there is a place in the southern part of Seoul, it would be more convenient for me.

They head your degree? Every day? Do you roll it up in a ball and throw it to them? Or can you flick it up to them with your foot after juggling it for a bit?

How do you teach poor vacation times?

Thank you. Please come again.

OP, what you're looking for is called a 번역공증사무소.

If you live anywhere near Yeoksam Station, there's an office which can help you. When I had something similar done a couple of years ago in Mok-dong, it cost over 200,000 won; the translation service is expensive.

Here are a couple more places in Seoul:

Yangcheon-gu, Shinjeong-dong http://www.ganabunyuk.co.kr/

Jung-gu, Taepyeongno2ga http://www.krtrans.net/v_01/main.htm

The information is all in Korean, but it's a start. Good luck!
