I have some trouble with my computer. It had fallen from the table sometime ago, after I tripped on the wire, which did not come out but dragged it to the floor.......yikes.
Anyway, everythign pretty much works.........except when I turn it on, the computer cannot locate the operating system. I have ran the diagnostics and everything, and it did not find anything. So, I am thinking either the hard drive or the mother board.
I took it to a "PC repair" guy, and I basically had to show him that you have to turn on the computer in order to start...............seriously. Anyway, I finally got him to actually do some work and test the hard drive and he said it is busted (after turning the computer on while the HD was out).
He can't order a new hard drive, does not know anyone who has one, and would even even contact Dell Korea for me so that I could order one and pay for it plus a little extra for him.
So, the comptuer was purchased in the states, but I need it fixed. Enough is enough. Are there any DELL outlets or repair shops in the Daejon area? Or, am I phucked?
Thanks. |

Can you run a diagnostic tool? |

Thats the thing........I don't know, for sure. The local computer repair guy tested the hard drive and said it was shot. But the computer would still function while it was out.
Yes, I had run a diognostic on it and it did not pick up on anything wrong. So, I tried to reinstall the OS, but it could not locate the hard drive.
It has been a complete pain the but to get anyone from Dell to help or answer qustions.........even Dell USA. |

Sounds like he is correct to me.
Your computer would still start with it's firmware, then look for a hard drive and not find it. You might also try getting to the boot screen and make sure it hasn't been reset to search for the operating system elsewhere. Usually you can see how to get to this when the computer first turns on and does to a straight text over background situation for a few quick seconds. See which Function key it tells you to press to get into setup.
Do you have your Dell disks?
You should be able to reinstall on a new hard drive quite easily. |
