One way to increase the level of trust and professional qualifications of current and potential EFL - ESL instructors is to enhance the training available for those who come to this country. The Korean government is in the midst of education reform right now and it is time to begin working on a model that will address the need for foreign teachers receiving some recognition for the training they take to improve their skills. The same thing takes place in other countries where there are government supported development groups working with educators from every field of study. It would not be that difficult to start and in fact there is a model that would be quite suitable for this to take place if it could be presented to the right people. This might put to rest some of the common issues and concerns foreign teachers in Korea have faced during the last several years. BTW, I am not speaking of creating a union or some divisive organization that would cause more animosity than exists right now regarding the position and status of foreign teachers. |
