I may be buying a new laptop in the near future.

I know that Windows XP 32bit does not support large amounts of memory.

I see ads for laptops with Windows Vista Premium 32bit that have 2GB of memory.

My question is does Windows Vista 32 bit support large amounts of memory or do I do I need a version of Vista that's 64 bit???

I'd like leave the option to upgrade to 4 GB of memory if I buy one of the advertised laptops.

All Windows OS's in 32 bit only support up to 3.4 GB's of memory. You need 64bit to go higher.

I'm sure Demophobe can help you with 64bit Vista.

Waaa....

Its not a "Windows" thing, its a hardware thing, but yes, with any 32 bit OS, you can't get your full 4GB of RAM. Its all there and being used, but you can't access some of it, so it shows up as 3~3.2GB.

Vista 64Bit can support up to 128GB.

Why it isn't a limitation of the OS.
