Quote:
After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone by placing an ad in the local newspaper.

The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

Hambleton has heard from people besides interested buyers since recently placing the ad in The Des Moines Register.

The 48-year-old from Fort Dodge says she has fielded more than 70 telephone calls from emergency room technicians, nurses, school counselors and even a Georgia man who wanted to congratulate her.

"The ad cost a fortune, but you know what? I'm telling people what happened here," Hambleton says. "I'm not just gonna put the car for resale when there's nothing wrong with it, except the driver made a dumb decision.

"It's overwhelming the number of calls I've gotten from people saying 'Thank you, it's nice to see a responsible parent.' So far there are no calls from anyone saying, 'You're really strict. You're real overboard, lady."'

The only critic is her son, who Hambleton says is "very, very unhappy" with the ad and claims the alcohol was left by a passenger.

Hambleton believes her son but has decided mercy isn't the best policy in this case. She says she set two rules when she bought the car at Thanksgiving: No booze, and always keep it locked.

The car has been sold, but Hambleton says she will continue the ad for another week just for the feedback.

19-years-old! Most Europeans would have been legally drinking for 3 years already.

He's 19, he needs to move out and away from his b*tch mom. If he can't move out(which i couldn't at that age) then i suppose he has to live by her rules. But lets be clear, she is being a massive b*tch. I suggest he swallow it now and when she is old let her rot in some crappy home.

saw this on another forum, and i gotta say...he got what was coming to him.
not that hard to keep booze outta the car.

and, even though he's 19, i wouldn't be too surprised if he was still in high school...not that it matters much.

Well yea there is no way he should be letting his mom buy him a car. That's a recipe for disaster. I do have a few questions though for the head crusher though....

1 what in the name of god is a kraft dinner? Is this some kind of super cool way to spell craft? I know Igotthisguitar always puts ks in words..maybe you are doing the same?

2 I've never had a basement.

When I was caught drinking for the first time by mt ma(after st paddys day when i was 14) she was pissed. She didn't take out an ad in the paper though. I was appropiately punished..I had to work for my dad for no pay. By the time I was 18/19 there is no way in the world my ma was going to tell me if I can drink or not drink because *ding ding* I am an adult. So yea the mom is a bitch but then so is the son. Buy your own car. Who needs their mom to buy them a car anyway? Really? People don't have part time jobs anymore...and I thought that petrol/diesel is pretty cheap in the states also.

Where the hell are you from? Americans, Canadians, Brits, even Aussies and Kiwis know about Kraft Dinner. Or at least have heard about it!

It must have been a cloistered childhood you had.

But maybe it's for the best. I had too much KD in university. Embarassed Never again.

It's more than fair for the mum to have her rules and to enforce them.

It's another thing completely to advertise the fact to the world.

What was the purpose in that? Why can't you just sell the car and have junior's indiscretion remain in the family? Instead she's trawled for support, spent a small fortune, and publically humiliated her son.

I have no doubt the mum is well meaning, but I can see more negatives than positives in this for the family.

well i googled it and it doesn't look too good. I had never heard of it before, but I'm sure there is Irish food you have never heard of. In university I was a super noodle guy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Noodles

and also a buckfast guy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckfast_Tonic_Wine

All in all you get fed and drunk for under a tenner. Good times.

I'd take irish food over KD any day. I guess you're lucky never to have had Kraft Dinner.

In high school my friends might have had nicer cars but their parents would ground them and take the keys away when they got in trouble.

My parents could never take my car away from me because I paid for it without any help from them. Very Happy

i luuuuuuuuurrrvvve mac and cheese. but ketchup on it? blech! and being not from the 51st state (KanaDuh), i never heard it called KD til i came here, where the majority of white-faces are KanaDeeuhn

mom had every right to sell the car. as far as loudly advertising the fact, not something i would do, but not necessarily a bad thing. it'll leave more of a lasting impression. as far as leaving the advert in there a week after it was sold, yea, that was a little b!tchy and narcissistic. she deserves a "f!ck you, mom" for that one

If I was the kid, I would set up an ad in the personals for mom:

"Single and available solo mother. Highly interested in bondage, discipline, and S&M. Into everything cars, engines, motors buying and selling.
Children recently moved out of home."

sue her. defamation of character. was it his alcohol? can she prove such? maybe it was from one of his buds and it ended up there when it slipped out of his bokbag and the driver was completely unaware.

the victim in this is not a minor. sue her. she ran down your good name with unsubstantiated charges.

the sportscaster michael irvin had a similar alibi for a much more heinous substance was busted by the man and walked scot-free because it wasn't his, even though it was in his possession.

innocent until proven guilty, baby.

and yeah, he should move out and never look back.
