So after 1.5 years in Korea and various trips around Asia, I decided that it was time to head back home to Edmonton (Sherwood park actually) to visit the family for a while. Overall impression: boring, boring, boring.

I love hiking but the only place to go is Elk Island National Park without a 5 hour drive. I love running but the only place to go without driving a ways is around the suburbs...the the while breathing in the refinery smoke. And friends: not many left after leaving Edmonton when I was 18. Cable TV: I was only home for 3 weeks and was already starting to see repeats. Food: okay, but bland. I need my gochu-jang. And eating out in restaurants is outrageously expensive.

I was pretty much missing Korea the moment I stepped on the airplane at Incheon. Disturbing, but true. Maybe a lifer?

Don't be alarmed. This is actually quite common.

Try spending Christmas on Ko Samui next time.

I think I've isolated your problem. Edmonton is one of the most boring cities in Canada. Next time, try Montreal or Vancouver. Even Halifax is better than Edmonton.

Even sadder is that Edmonton is a tourist destination for people from Saskatchewan. Edmonton makes an exciting trip for saskies!
