This looks so tasty, and yet, I don't know how I'll be able to make it for less than $20. Black market gravy, 10,000 won beef, veggies, and 'taters.

Make your own damn gravy. It's not hard!

We make this all the time, and don't use 'gravy'.

Brown the mince with chopped onions and garlic, toss in whatever chopped vegetables you want. We use zucchini and some carrot. Then we add some tomato sauce for a thicker consistency. Put in one of those cheap foil take-out pans, top with mashed potatoes and grated cheese....grill until the cheese is melted and/or browned.

Easy comfort food.

The Wolfhound in Itaewon makes a huge Shepard's Pie. It's not as good as a home made one but for 12.000W it's not bad and you can get a couple of feeds out of it if you get it to go.

Those closer to Anyang also have another excellent option: Darrin from Renaissance Pub also makes a wicked Shepherd's pie.

Renaissance is a recently-opened foreigner's pub near Myeonghak station (in between Beomgye and Anyang stations) that has a small but delicious western menu, free pool, free internet, and great atmophere.

Here's their rough site:

This reminds me of a friend who would do his grocery shopping at the convenience store while blacked out drunk. One afternoon, he wakes up and checks out his freezer, and there are four pizzas. The problem:

No oven! Not even a microwave.

Moral of the story: Consider yourself lucky that you have an oven, bud.
