This is really a sad state of affairs.
For many years, several of us have been offering newbees good advice on how to come here to teach. I've passed on what I've learned about getting a good job here, and others have too.
Unfortunately, thanks to the haphazard way the new rules are being implemented, I don't have much advice I feel I can offer new people.
I used to say, "Come here and get a job. Go see the schools for yourself -- don't trust a recruiter or a school to be honest about a job or conditions without seeing the place first."
Now, apparently, coming here and searching for a job isn't an option because a newbee would still have to return home to interview at their home consulate. Is this still the case? I've heard so much yea and nay that I don't have a clue.
Immigration seems to vary so much from one office to another -- so much so that one newbee from one area isn't of much help to other newbees who might read his/her posts here.
This means that more newbees are going to trust recruiters and schools, and probably get screwed.
Wow. |

But didn't immigration say they decided not to do the in-country interviews unless the person was "suspicious?"
Can anyone clarify this, I'm under the impression that if you have all you documents together, you can come here, find a job and do a visa run in Asia, no interview necessary. |

So I just read the new article about the problems the E-2 changes are creating for hogwans, and it says this:
Quote: |
Foreigners hoping to teach here are now required to submit official documents showing their criminal and medical history, and then to go through a separate screening interview at a Korean consulate in their home countries. |
I guess it's true. Stupid. Why couldn't an interview be done here, or at the Japanese, Chinese or Thai embassy/consulate? Oh, that would be logical. |
