I wanted to know if any of you guys bank with CITI bank? I know they have branches in Korea. I'm asking this because I'm trying to figure out a way to pay my credit card bills in the US easily. I was gonna open up a CITI bank checking account in the US and in Korea so I can just transfer quickly. Do any of you guys know how much they charge to send money from Korea to US, preferably via CITI bank? Thanks alot, any insight on how you guys deal with this would be great. |

I bank with citibank uk, and looked at opening a Korean account to transfer easily too.
I was told that there is really no union with citibank Korea and other citibanks.
I don't think it matters which bank you transfer too or from in Korea to the West. |

i've tried several times to open a citibank acc here and each time was treated so rudely i walked out in disgust - they really seem to hate americans in the citibanks here - don't know why it's so bad but really a lot worse and blatant than some places
i keep an account back in the u.s. and wire money home ever so often, then just bank online and send a check to pay bills, whatever. didn't you keep an account open there?
if not, you might have a little difficulty then. cheapest would probably be sending either travelers checks or a certified bank check in the regular post -but count on about 2 weeks mail time. |

thanks for the replys. I have a BofA account in the states. I take it that I dont needs to have two of the same accounts, one in Korea and on in the States to have easily transfered money between accounts in both countries? How much does it usually cost to transfer money and exchange that money between accounts? does it take time? How do you guys pay your home country bills? |

I've always been told that Bank X in Korea and Bank X in Home Country are not really linked. Thus you DO need two accounts.
Fees depend on banks and the amount you're sending home.
Luckily, I don't have many bills in my home country. In fact, only one. Transfer money every three or four months, then set up automatic bill pay. Tada. |

Moosehead is correct. Citibank in Korea is as awful as HSBC in Korea, which is surprising since their Singapore counterparts are so brilliant. I bank at KB in Korea and they do me right. Some other posters mention Standard Charter as the most foreign-friendly bank in Korea. |
