anyone play? since theres an unforgivable dearth of pocket-ball tables in the land of sparkling, a friend and i played 4-ball yesterday afternoon. quite a bit more challenging than just hitting the ball in the pocket. we just kinda made up our own rules, having a vague understanding of how to play. anyone have a definitive listing of 3-ball or 4-ball rules |

You owe me a beer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_ball
"Danggu (Korean: 당구). The game is played with four balls: Two red
object balls, one white cue ball, and one yellow cue ball (or sometimes
both cue balls are white, one with a red spot). Each of the two players is
assigned his or her own cue ball. A point is scored when the shooter
caroms on both red balls. The shooter is penalized a point for failure to
carom on either red ball or if the shooter causes his cue ball to carom off
the opponent's cue ball. Thus, the shooter must avoid any carom or kiss
off of the opponent's ball while striving to carom on the two red object
balls. A carom on only one red ball results in no points but ends the
shooter's inning." |

I can always find a billiard room with at least one pocketball table in Seoul neighborhoods. |

Also popular is 3 -cushion, where there are only 3 balls on the table.
This is the game that is popular on TV.
The players take turns in striking the yellow or white cueball and the cueball should hit 3 cushions before it has stuck both the other 2 balls.
This scores 1 point. |

yea, i see that sometimes. i did not realize that it HAD to hit the rail 3 times. its hard enough to hit both balls, let alone with the 3 cushion rule |

The actual rule for 3-cusion Billiards is that the cue ball strike the 2nd object ball before or at the same time it strikes the rail for the 3rd time.
There are also quite a few different games played on the pocketless billiards table. The next time you're in a book store, ask the clerk to show you the 당구 (dang-gu) books. You'll be introduced to a whole new world of games. |
