|
|
So, here's the deal (no pun intended):
I've been frequenting the casino located within the Walker Hill Hotel in Seoul (East Seoul, subway stop: 강변/Gangbyeong) and got to be friends with the owner of the poker room there. We were talking about promotional ideas and came across the idea of setting up a no limit hold'em tourney for foreigner ESL teachers here in Seoul.
Since I'm a regular lurker and occasional poster on Dave's, I thought I would be fair and ask the poker players here first before I start asking elsewhere if anyone would be interested in being a part of this.
Here's the catch..... there is no catch. For the price of a cab fare or subway ticket, you can head on down and upon my referral sit down to play in a tourney with a huge first place prize.
So you might be asking yourself... how much could possibly be on the line if it's a freeroll tournament? Well, I'm talking probably at least $1000~$2000 for first place... without you having the buy in for a single won. If (and only if) there's a lot of interest in this event and I can get a list of people seriously interested exceeding 50 people, there's a good chance I may be able to negotiate with the owner to make the prize money exceed the figures stated above.
But before I can convince him this is a good promotional idea, I need to see that the ESL teachers who play poker here in Seoul are truly interested. This is a great chance to play high stakes no limit hold'em poker without risking anything at all.
So! If you're truly interested, there are two requirements:
First, please post in this thread stating that you are interested. This serves the simple purpose of bumping this thread up and keeping it afloat amongst the other topics.
Second, please PM me your Name (First and Last Initial if you're not comfortable giving me a full name), E-Mail Address (So I can forward the specifics later on in a mailing list), Age (not really important but I just want the info to use as filler info on the spreadsheet I'm going to send to the owner), and lastly a suggestion on what day of the week would be best for this tourney to take place were it to happen within the next month or two.
Thanks for taking the time to read this guys, and if there are any questions then please feel free to ask me right here in this thread.
Cheers,
LuminairE

You should talk to your contact about a discounted stay at the hotel there on the day of the tourney. |

For those of you who have played at Walker Hill, are there poker games happening around the clock? What limit of games are being played? |

Great idea.
I've played at a good dozen or so Wednesday and Sunday tourneys back in the Spring.
I never met another English teacher outside of the few that I brought with me. Predominately korean-americans, chinese, and military personnel.
Great promotional move though to attract ESL teachers! |

Will show up if a date is set. Anytime is good.
I've also been to a few of the freerolls before, they're well run.
I have 4 friends who'd come for sure also. |

The ring games are usually NL, with blinds of 1/2, 2/5, 5/10, 10/20 available during weekends. The tables are open during weekdays as well, but I don't think there's much action then.
There's also a weekly tournament on Wednesdays at 7. Even if you don't play the tourney, they'll probably have one or two tables of small stakes NL running on the side. |
