There have been a couple of threads regarding criminal / police checks for Canadians and Brits.
I'm just wondering whether anyone Irish has looked into getting checks at home, and whether they could give me any info, e.g. how long it takes, what exactly is entailed etc....
Cheers |

yeah applied for mine 3 weeks ago, takes 40 days approx.
1.You need to write a letter stating "i wish to have criminial check under section 1234 etc" and then sign it. Typed is ok but sign it.
2. 6 95 euro. No overseas drafts or postal orders. I got my sis to send it for me.
3.Copy of passport or birth cert.
4.Your current address in Korea where they will post it back.
That's it.
Here is their site.

Thanks for that info inthezone. However, when I contacted the Irish embassy for information they sent me this link:
http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/justice/law_enforcement/police_certificate_of_character
It's a completely different kind of check. Where did you get your information? Are both checks acceptable for the E2 visa?
Also, anybody know what this apostille lark is all about and how we can get it done?
I'd appreciate any more info you have.
Thanks |

Yeah dont go through the embassy, just deal with the CRB directly. Give them a call, the number is on the site. Ask for a Sergeant called Emer. |

Has anyone asked immigration about whether or not this will work? Perhaps people need to contact the Irish embassy to let them know that their is alternative check and that they need to let Korean Immigration know about it in order to save people time, money and needless headaches. |

I heard today that Korean Immigration is allowing online checks for certain countries, does anyone know if Ireland is included, the guy I spoke with over the phone seemed to think it might but when I tried contacting the Irish embassy by email but they don't seem to be very helpful and could only advise me to wait around 8 weeks while my background check is being processed by the Gardai so now I think perhaps that I'll have to go their in person to find more useful information. Anyone else found out anymore than than that? |

Hey all. Does anybody know how to get this apostille thingy done? I've heard immi has already refused a few visas (not Irish as far as I know) because they're not satisfied that the apostilles are genuine. It's getting a little worrying at this stage. |

Immigration are idiots and probably don't even know the difference between a fake and the genuine article.
I think if you go to the Irish embassy and get them to apposillise a statement saying that your documents are real and you should be fine with Korean immigration.
Also if your in Ireland then check this website for details.http://www.apostilleinfo.com/ireland.htm |

Hey. Did you get your check yet? How about the apostille? Will the embassy in Seoul do this for you?
I was told a few weeks ago that I didn't need to do the criminal and medical checks because I was changing jobs between universities. I was just told today that I do in fact need them. Grrrrr! Time is running out at this stage and I really need to find out about the apostille.
Thanks in advance for any help/info. |

I'm not sure how long it's going to take, but I've also asked my brother in the US to do a online criminal background check for me(It's supposed only to take three days), and then I'll try and see if I can the Irish Embassy in Seoul to stamp a letter declaration. I know immigration have said that they will accept online checks(I had the Irish Embassy ring immi to confirm) but I think my biggest problem will be convincing the Irish embassy staff that the check is indeed legitimate.
I will probably have my work cut for me there I'm afraid, but I think it's worth a shot if it saves me some time. |

Still have'nt got mine yet and i am around the 40 day mark or maybe past it but i put the delay down to xmas holidays.
I think for the background check the CRB is the way to go. When i called my home Garda station he said all inquiries regarding criminal checks are handled by the CRB.
I have'nt heard anything about this apostile thing. What is it? My school has'nt asked me for it. They just asked me to verify my degree 2 times and wanted an alumni list etc which is confidential. |
