Just a general question on what teachers need to wear when teaching in a public school setting - is it really formal, or semi formal, or are jeans permitted

Unless there is some special event planned, I would say business casual is fine. Collared shirt, pants and shoes. (I am assuming you are a guy).

After that, you need to get a feel for the place. Some schools are more relaxed than others, and later on maybe you can get away with jeans (as long as they are clean without holes and shit).

I used to work for a PS, and I just got a sense of what would be appropriate depending on what was going on at the school. I did throw on a suit at times, but that was for days when all the parents were going to show up.

You will hopefully be able to ask other male teachers about this, too. But in the beginning it is better to dress well (although I think a suit will be unnecessary - unless you want).

Teachers in my school tend to dress business casual. Female teacher can be found wearing jeans and suits. Men always wear jackets.

I usually wear a jacket and collared shirt.

On Fridays I wear jeans sometimes no jacket and once in a while my redsox world series tee, with hat.

During summer camp I wore shorts and tees.

You're a little old for that are you not? Did your mother dress you as well?

I've had to wear shorts and tee during summer camp. The principal has a dress code for the school year but said he didn't care what we wore to summer camp. Considering the school uses the Air Conditioner sparingly, shorts and tee was the most comfortable thing. I don't like teaching when I'm sweating my balls off.

No. More suitable for public school. More of a clown job. But hey, why kid ourselves. Probably suitable for every last teaching job here.

Don't kid yourself. You're a clown.

I'm not a clown. Clowns clap, make funny noises, and make balloon animals.

As some previous posters have said, dress formal in the beginning, and then afterwards you can gauge what is appropriate.

The range of dress for the Korean public school teachers I've seen has been from a dress or suit with matching jewellery, to jeans and a concert t-shirt. I myself usually wear some slacks and a blouse, with a blazer or sweater if it's cool, and a multi-sweater/scarf/glove/jacket combo when it's cold and there's no heat in the classrooms Very Happy

In the summertime I wear light-weight shirts that don't show cleave or bare shoulders.

I've also worn jeans, I just don't do it every day. It really depends on the school, and I guess you won't know until you're there. I always see the VP and P in suits. I suppose they have to dress the part. In the beginning it's a good way to establish yourself as someone to take seriously if you dress the part too.
