Hi... I just bought a new laptop and I was very happy with it. But as soon as I got back to Korea I noticed what sounds like fan noise. It didn't do this before. I had it as a carry-on on the airplane but maybe it got bumped at some point.
Since the sounds occurs as soon as I turn the laptop on I'm sure it isn't from overheating. The noise comes from an opening on the left side of the keyboard. If I look in the opening I can see some coil wire or something - but I'm not sure which fan that would be...?

Do you have any idea why it could be making noise suddenly and what I can do to fix it? Its hard to believe it needs replacing so soon but who knows...
Thanks!!

Are you sure it the fan?

Is it a clickking sound like marbles in your hubcaps?

Could be the hard drive took a beating during the travels.

Do some maintenance on the hard drive
defrag and clean up and a disk check.

These are found in your Harddrive properties under the tools tab.

For the fan turn you computer off and put a good high powered vacuum
to the fan grating and vents.

No, there is no clicking sound to indicate it might be the hard drive.

It just sounds like air/wind coming out and I can actually feel air coming out from the side of the keyboard too. Not sure if thats suppose to be normal...?
The noise isn't too loud or too annoying but it just didn't do that for the first week I had it. Maybe I'll try the vacuum suggestion to see if that fixes it.

Sounds like your fan is working very well. Maybe too well. Perhaps the fan is running at 100% all the time. Instead of increasing incremently as designed to do.

I don't know much about laptop fans. In desktops you can regulate the fan's speed by software like Riva tuner.

Is your laptop a Vaio? I have a new Vaio and the fan is always kicking on (also on the left side). Like you said, it's not too annoying but it does it almost all the time.
