hi all
i have about $10,000 i would like to put away or invest for a year or 2.
i would also be adding another $10k in 6 months and another $10k 6 months later. (god willing)
i have an option of sending the money back home and putting it into something called a participation bond which guarantees 11.25%
what i would like to know is,
are there any good investment opportunities here in korea that gurantee more than 11% growth?
maybe something that's user friendly and doesnt involve too much risk? |

Hold on.
There is no such thing as a "guarantee" of 11.25 % If there was, we would live in a much different world, economically speaking. Find out more about the small print before you invest. The highest "guarantee" one can find is roughly 5%. After that there are incremental risks involved. |

They are bonds backed by real estate. Have you been reading the news lately? The real estate market is in the latrine.
You can make money on junk bonds, but you can also lose your shirt.
It's possible to find a decent Korean CD or something of that nature yielding 4-5%. Actually I have been looking to do just that. Anybody? |

| If you're willing to tie your money up for at least a year, you can find interest rates of over 6% here. I'm not willing to tie my money up for that amount of time because I like to diversify into mutual funds. This is why I have my money in an MMF (money market fund) that gets 4.7-4.8%. The good thing is, I can take my money out whenever I want and adjust my portfolio whenever I want. |
