|
|
I teach biz english and I want to do more fun acitivites, but I don't know what to do with them or where to find information. They are quiet smart so I was thinking of doing role-playing, but I can't think of situations that will allow them to have fun with it and actually talk for more than one minute.
ANy help is appreciated!

I am trying not to slag you, but jeeze you can't think of ANY role playing situations that could be fun for adults? I find that hard to believe. It makes one wonder if you are incredibly unimaginative or just want someone to do the work of coming up with it for you. It is one thing to see about exhcanging ideas, but you don't even attempt that.
Try looking at some of the text books out there for adult students, not the business ones.
Or ... google it. |

OP
Why not take in two photos - from home or from a vacation, whatever - and split your class into two groups. One group has one photo, and the other group has a different (but not too different) picture. Each group takes it in turns asking yes/no questions (are there people in your picture?), they can keep asking questions until they get a NO answer, then it is the other group's turn to ask questions. Keep this going for a while, and make sure each group is recording the info they learn about the other picture. At the end of the Q&A session, draw two boxes on the board and get one member from each of the group to draw what they think the other picture looks like.
You can use any kind of picture for this activity, but I have found that students love it if they get a glimpse of you outside of your teacher mode through some personal photos. It is really fun if you can use old snaps that they don't recognise you in. |

Business textbooks are filled with case studies that give a lot of general fluency practice, are on topic and most students enjoy. I use the ones in Market Leader or In Company Case studies book. |

How about a role play in the context of a Buy and Sell Forum situation?
One student plays the role of seller, several students play the role of prospective buyers, and one student plays the role of spliff. |

A role play about picking up a prostitute and negotiating would be perfect. |

You can try having thme create a new product and let try to make up a bussiness plan for them. They will like the on hands approach of ther activity. Thne they can present in Enlgish, trust me they will laugh at each others ideas and it's fun.
You can find a standard product develpement on the net and then take it from there.
I have an outline saved it you want it message me with your emial.

There is a new textbook called "Widgets" that does exactly that - sets up a marketing product from beginning to end. I think it is more for college students, but there are some good exercises in it. |
