Hi all,
I've been planning to teach in Korea for a couple of years now. Finally, degree-in-hand, I'm ready to go. However, with these new visa conditions, I'm not going to be able to head to Korea on my own and conduct the job search there, as I had expected to do (I had thought this might help me reduce the chance that I'll end up in a bad school)... looks like now I'm going to have to pre-arrange the job before I get on that plane!
So I'm writing to ask for advice - how can I increase my chances of ending up in a good place, even though I have to apply outside of the country? How do I find those "unadvertised" jobs, given that I can't be in the country to hear about them?
Thanks for your help!! |

1. Do lots and lots of research on here...darn near memorize the contract info available here, so you can instantly recognize potential problems.
2. Apply through recruiters AND respond directly to ads. Search on here for information about good recruiters. Believe little, if anything, even a "good" recruiter tells you.
3. Insist (it's not always possible with public schools) to talk to the onsite director (if you're going through a recruiter) to make sure they really speak English. "He used to live in the US" from a recruiter may actually mean he passed through JFK airport when he was 2 years old. If the director of the school doesn't speak English, how will you ever get a problem solved?
4. When you've narrowed it down to a couple of schools, research those specific schools on here...there may be nothing, but there may be comments. |
