Is the #1 line of the Seoul subway the only line where the trains drive to the left? |

Yes.
Reasons given:
It was funded by the Japanese.
or
It was built by a British company. |

Maybe they thought there would be less confusion since everyone tends to walk to the left? Wonder why they changed the direction when they built #2. |

Since there's a thread about the #1 line now, I'm going to ask a really stupid question..
I approach Yongsan from the south. I leave, go to the electronics market, come back... but which bloody train do I get on to go back south? Both times, I've ended up just going north and transferring from there...

Have the same problem at Yongsan. Gotta be the most confusing station I have ever been in. (And I have been in more than I can remember!). |

I usually opt to go to Sinyongsan station. I've gotten mixed up at Yongsan station several times. Sadang used to be bad to me, but I've figured it out now. |

Actually no. When line four really gets far south, like around Children's grand park, it also switches to the left.

Me too, I read the signs and wait for the train that is going where I want to go. I have never gone the wrong way from Yongsan. Sometimes going from the south the train stops at Yongsan and then you have to switch if you want to keep on going though. |

I hate Geumjeong, where lines 1 and 4 cross. I swear, all the signs say the exact same things, but they all go to different trains. I haven't been back to that station since summer. |

Geumjeong is easy. If you're on Line 1 going south and get off there, at that same platform will be Line 4 going south as well. You don't need to walk anywhere if you intend to keep going south.
Same thing holds true for going north. |

Platform #5 goes south.
Read the front of the train.
Some go to Incheon and some go through Suwon.
They split (and you transfer if you are on the wrong train) at Guro.
Can't be more specific without knowing your specific endpoint.

Four: Soyosan, Incheon, Cheonan, and Gwangmyeong
The signage at Yongsan is confusing. I live down there and use Yongsan a lot, so I don't get mixed up too often. Someone said platform 5, although I had thought it was 4. One of those, anyway. Worst-case scenario, depending on how far south you need to go, buy a Mugunghwa ticket to Suwon or wherever, and transfer at an easier station. That's what I do. And if I catch the last train out, I can stay in Seoul a little longer. The 11.10 train overtakes the last couple of subway trains, and at Suwon I can transfer and go the rest of the way home. |
