Ive been here a few months and its not working out at my school. My immediate boss is just too much to deal with. If they don't fire me in the next week or two (which seems relatively likely), I will probably just quit. Its depressing, I am still hoping that I can teach english here for a little while though.

Does any one know what is likely to happen if I do get fired?

Is it possible that I can stay in the country? I am on the standard E2 visa and id really rather not leave just yet.

Do you know if its possible to transfer my E2 into some other kind of visa? I was thinking maybe I would try to live here for a while but not work in a hagwon but from what i've read the process would work something like this: they fire me or I quit, they write a letter of release, E2 visa is cancelled, and I have 14 days to leave the country.

id really like to avoid that if its possible. Im assuming I am going to have to repay the school for the plane ticket here and visa costs, and then ill have to buy a plane ticket back. I only worked a few months, Im kind of broke at the moment. Id just stick around for a while if it was possible.

If you do get fired, they will ask you to go down to immigration with them to release you from the visa. At least, this is what our company does when they fire people. I think it is because it is the simplest way to release you from the visa. Once your visa is canceled you will have 2 weeks to leave the country. Then you come back on a visitors visa. The visitors visa will allow you to stay in country for a certain amount of time, depending on what country you are from. Americans get 1 month, Canadians get 6.

I would start looking for another job now. Get your paper work in order. If you don't mind me asking, why do you think you are getting fired? Has your supervisor been unrealistic with demands?

As far as paying back the plane ticket, it depends on what is in your contract. Most likely it will say that you have to repay it. They shouldn't be able to get you to repay the visa costs. Did you do a Japan run? And from what I know, it is not possible to switch your visa to another kind.

Im sure there are people who would argue that they were not unrealistic with demands. I was expecting to be obligated 30 hours a week and they have me there 40. Im assuming thats not totally uncommon for the area. They ask me to teach some of those extra ten hours and there is no mention of it being looked at as "overtime."

Also, they make me wear suits, which I wasnt expecting. Kind of ridiculous being around 5 year olds rolling around on the ground half the day, who then want to touch you every 15 minutes. I dont think I need to be looking like an FBI agent to do that.

More seriously, though, its mostly a personal issue. My immediate boss makes half of what I do and shes highly resentful of that fact. When shes having a bad day, she takes it out on the people around her. I can only deal with that so much and they actually started telling me they didnt think I was right for the school when I stopped saying "hi" and "bye" to my boss at the end of the day.

I dont hold these people in the regard they want to be held. Im starting to think that will make it impossible for me to keep a job like this in this country.

Refreshing to see some honesty in a thread like this! Why do you want to stay in Korea longer? Maybe look into a term at a university here for language study if that interests you. I don't know much about it, but anecdotally it doesn't sound too hard to get accepted.
