| My mom's coming to Asia for 3 weeks. We're spending a week in Korea, then going to spend 2 weeks somewhere else. We probably want to keep it on the cheap side, but are open. Where should we go? |

My mom came last spring to visit my in Seoul. than we spent one week in Beijing and took the train to Shanghai where we spent another week.
We had a fantastic time. But if you go, go when the weather gets a bit warmer.
Beijing was fantastic! |

| Thailand is spectacular and inexpensive. You can get 2 person rooms for as little as $6.25 US or 200 baht with pleasant warm weather and nature to enjoy as well as great food, arts, and music. Nothing else I have seen and experienced in Asia beats Thailand with it actually offering a much more interesting experience over expensive Europe or Japan. |

How many Asian countries have you experienced aside from Thailand and Japan? OP, while I must say Thailand is much cheaper than Japan, don't be too ready to discard a trip to Japan. There are many amazing things to see and do (especially outside Tokyo). Most everyone recommends Kyoto, but Nara and Hikone are also beautiful areas if you want to get away from the city. Good luck! |

Agree with the last post. If you're willing & able to spend a bit more a week in Japan is great(2 are better but, yeah, it's a tough place to do on the cheap).
Go to Osaka to experience modern, urban Japan; then over to Nara for culture and maybe a trip to Koya-san for a peace-and-quiet temple stay. |
