Man, I miss the golden years (99-05) of Korean Cinema. Movies like the Vengeance trilogy, Memories of Murder, and Friend seemed to pop up monthly. Does anyone have some recent releases or upcoming films to suggest? Don't worry about the genre. I'm willing to look into any type of movie.

Crossing looks like it is going to be very good...

the story of North korean defectors and how tough it is for them....surprising subject in the ignorant south and apparently very well made.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I have Chaser sitting on my HD right now; it did look like it had potential. Hopefully, I'll get to watch that one later tonight or tomorrow.

Crossing does sound interesting. I had seen a movie about a year ago with the same subject. Very good, but it was a documentary. I'll definitely keep an eye out for this one. Smile

Is that the one that looks like it takes place in the Gobi Desert?

The Chaser is a good thriller with great acting. Worth checking out. One of the better Korean movies I've seen this year.

The Good, The Bad, The Weird comes out this month...and I hear it's very good.

Awesome, I already have three movies lined up. Thanks a bunch!

I'm hoping to see some more of Choi Min-sik and Song Kang-ho this year too.

You can't go wrong with any of director Kim Ki Duk's movies. I have just finished watching his last film BREATH. Very off-beat. If you liked the Vengeance trillogy, you'll probably like Kim Ki Duk. The Coast Guard by him is also insane.

Thanks, Dev and samd. I liked The Bow, and I have Time sitting on my HD now. Good to know that he's still getting some movies out. I haven't heard of Seven Days, but it has a decent score on IMDB. I'll try to find out more.

"Crossing" is fantastic!

I highly recommend you watch it. It is a must-see movie. It is currently playing in theaters.

Even if you don't know Korean it is still very enjoyable. I don't know Korean myself. And anyways, living in Korea, not understanding what people are saying is something you are already used to.

It is about escaping from North Korea. The movie is very realistic.

Check out these two previews of Crossing:

1) Korean Movie "Crossing (2008)" Main Trailer

2) Korean Movie "Crossing (2008)" Teaser Trailer

It's great that a movie like this has finally come out so that the world, in
particular South Koreans themselves, know about the evils of North Korea.

Unlike the rest of the world, South Koreans are completely ignorant about the evils of North Korea, which is quite ironic. A movie like this is long over due.

Go see Crossing today!

Cool
