With the soccer fanatacism that has gripped South Korea since 2002, I generally find myself quietly hoping the Korean soccer team will crash and burn next summer, just to see the crestfallen looks on my overly boisterous and arrogant K-coworkers faces...but then I started thinking, do I really want to live in Korea for the next 4 years with 50 million people pissed off...hmmm

hahahahaha
well I just want to see the korean team treated like the other teams this time! they got away with murder last time! and ok its all business and politics but korea had their moment in history! they wont hold the games for a very long time again! korea played well! they got some dodgy calls their way! and advanced to the quaters which was basically they played every game in their country which was to a sellout crowd! but in germany korea will have to rely only on skill! no ref is gonna help them this time!
they should pass to the second round! will be good enough if they do becuase they have never been to the second round outside 2002! so lets see how far they get this time!

I'd like to see Zidane go out in style after the disappointments of the last two big tournaments. A Champions League final style goal in the final would be pretty good (left foot volley top corner!)
Also, I reckon Spain could do alright... Fernando Torres is gonna be a superstar.

Surely we ALL want to see England crash and burn. I'd support a team of paedophile war criminals against the likes of Beckham, Owen... just to see the headlines in the Sun or Daily Mail the next day!

Did you live in a trailer before coming to Korea?

I wouldn't know him to look at him, but isn't Beckham supposed to be like, the world hero of all that is good? I thought he was Europe's answer to Jesus or something.

He was vilified by the press in England after World Cup 98 because they blamed him for their defeat to Argentina. That was all forgotten though and he's now the media golden boy.

He's a very good player and all but I know most people in Ireland and Scotland hate the guy because of his poserisms. I personally hate the media frenzy that goes with any World Cup or Euro in England. They either think England are a dead cert to win or think they are crap and can't win anything. It's great fun to see them get beaten repeatedly and I can't stand the thought of them actually winning a major tournament. When they won the Rugby World Cup, the self-congratulation went on for ever (though not as long as over here). At least in Ireland we know our teams are average and are happy enough when we do semi-well. There's none of the delusions that seem to affect the English.

I agree that I would LOVE to see Korea do badly in this World Cup. Korean people definitely have a case of hubris over the national football team and olympic athletes, and it would be great to see their faces if they get knocked out in the group stage.

I agree that the media frezy in england surrounding major tournaments gets far too much. Can I also add I would love to see the U.S team do badly also. It'll be a sad day for football if the U.S team ever beat a major major team in the world cup.

I got my oldest students - age 12/13 to write about a future 2006 World Cup game that Korea plays and what they think would happen. Almost across the board, the papers had Korea playing and beating Germany and either winning the world cup or losing in the finals.

I would have thought that most of them would have just said we will win, but no, they had to beat Germany. It was actually interesting reading. I mean, I would have written about beating the World Champions, but they were more concerned with beating the team that defeated them.

Personally, after I watched the German team play against Brazil in the last, my thoughts at the time were they were just way too strong for Korea. It was like watching two different grades of play.

I for one wish them well.

What a prediction by the lover himself.
