February vacation is just around the corner and I know that quite a few people will be going on vacation. I am strongly considering a trip to China, as I get nine days of vacation.

I have heard that it will be nearly impossible to exchange my Korean won outside of Korea, and that I should get it done here. My question is, should I exchange my money at Incheon? Or is there somewhere else I should exchange beforehand to get a better rate?

Any and all advice is welcome!

I would buy a couple hundred thousand won in yuan, or whatever is available at your local bank.

Then wire most of the rest of what you need into a foreign account with an ATM card you can use internationally, or buy travelers' checks (but not the ones that need to be reported when lost to a Korean company!)

You may have time to exchange at Incheon.

I am sure I'll have time at Incheon, it's just that I don't want to take a bit hit on a few million won. Also, I don't want to get to the airport and get notified that they don't carry that much Yuan - because then if I take the flight I could end up in China without enough cash.

Money exchange at Incheon and your airport of arrival will certainly have currency on hand. Not sure where your best rate will be.

Honestly, I don't worry about these things much.

Henry,

If you have time before, it would be better to go to your bank. It kind of depends on your work schedule if you can get to the bank during the day.
