|
|
Spare me the lectures about being irresponsible but I dont know where my contract is and I am going to quit/get fired next week from a hagwan.
So.... how does it generally work with the plane ticket repayment? If they fire me does the teacher normally repay the school? Is there a difference really between getting fired and quitting?
In the US its generally better for the employee to get fired, as opposed to quitting, in terms of benefits that are later available.
I know it all depends on what the contract say but I dont have it. Im just curious about the general tendency. |

Most hakwon contracts imply/state that if you do not fulfill employment obligitations past the 6 month mark that you are responsible for repayment of the airfare that you were provided in coming here. |

I actually came here on a tourist visa and then did a visa run to japan a few weeks later. The school paid for the initial plane ticket and the visa run trip so I am not sure what they are going to make me pay. If anyone knows a list of the things the school will charge me for when i leave (i have been there about 3 months) i wouldnt mind hearing it. |

In all actuallity it is the same thing (quitting vs. being fired). A contract is a flexible document that can be changed at any time on a whim by your employer here. It works in their favor, not yours. You obviously can't change it, but they can. It is up to your employer as to whether they want to seek reimbursement for the airfare, sadly enough. If it is stated in the contract that you have to work at least 6 months to forego reimbursement, then that is what you most likely have to do. Your visa sponsor has every right to take that money from you in some fashion if they choose to do so. |

Try to get a copy of your contract. You may need it if you end up in a legal situation with your school. |
