Now, rule no1 to living in South Korea is not to take anything any Korean says to you with any credulence because the majority of Koreans talk bollocks most of the time - if it is good or it is bad. (mainly the latter)

However, it has been decided that I have a 'big face' Laughing

Not an insult (for which I have been told it is) I have been referred to before alas... I wanted to know what it meant.

I asked my director to expalin the 'Big Face' phenonemon and she says that Koreans think the head (and face) should be no more than 1/8th of the body size if you are deemed to be beautiful.

My head is about a 1/4 of my body! Laughing

I'm in good company apparentley - Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon etc also have a 'big face'

Who else has been referred to as having a 'big face' ? now don't be shy in admitting it!

Still, as I tell Koreans 'Big face - Big knob' Cool

Actually, as I learned back in figure-drawing in Art class, people's heads are generally 1/7 of the overall body.

I think Koreans are particularly sensitive to the whole "big head/face" thing because supposedly Koreans have the biggest heads when compared to other nationalities. Same with the whole "small eye" insecurity...

*EDIT: I just checked, and the "ideal" person is, in fact, 1/8, but the average is between 7-7.5 heads. Oops, sorry. Should have checked my facts first!

Bejarano, I hope you don't mind, but I put up this picture of us from last weekend. At least you still have all your hair, right.

Very Happy

I don't mind at all Paul! And what a fun night that was... everywhere we went, Koreans were taking photos on their mobile phones of my head from all angles whilst screaming 'Herro Mr Big Face' Whoever says celebrity gets you laid is having a laugh! Evil or Very Mad

Mind you the best part of the night was when we set fire to those insensitive Korean gets, I now use the ashes we scooped up from the floor to wipe my arse on.

I still have my hair thanks for asking! I'm trying to grow a Billy Ray Cyrus mullet... I hear mullets are good for making your face smaller!

We couldn't find a helmet size 80 BE, so I had to go into the world of Circus Freakery! Laughing

Which was a good introduction to ESL in Korea if truth be told!

BK, I thought you said you were dark-skinned and part Peruvian? You're very white on that photo, buddy.

Quite a handsome guy anyway. Head size is of the utmost irrelevance. I've a big head myself. In fact, my mother had to have a cesarean because of my big head. With a big head comes a big brain and the bigger the better, as summaized here. No surprise at all that the birds with the biggest brains are crows, ravens and parrots.

Ahhhhhhhhhh Justin... that isn't me on the photo! I'm just jesting!

My head isn't that small! Laughing

EDIT: My photo is on the 'how hawt are you thread' on page 60. Very Happy

The whole thing is all down to Korean insecurities, they even measure their foreheads in realtion to their nose and their mouth, I have never known anything like it.

Big face and I have a bad blood type... I think I can forget about getting laid around here! Laughing

Many Koreans get confused when you refuse to rate beauty based on a predefined checklist in your head. My students always look at me funny when I answer "pretty" to the "what kind of girls do you like?" question. They want racial preferences, blood type, hair color, blah, blah, blah. I just repeat "pretty" and smugly smile at their frustration.

BK, in case you haven't already noticed (in other words, while you are taking in the scenery of this foreign country, Koreans just seem to focus on peoples physical appearances--ever seen a korean girl or guy become very self-conscious when a foreigner is around? (I saw it for 6 years)--which is why conversations with them are so fuking shallow), this is a perfect example of Korean projection, in the classic psychoanalytic sense.

Koreans themselves have some of the biggest fukking heads known to man. Or, perhaps, they have some of the smallest necks which give them the impression of having big heads. Either way no one can tell me that the Koread head is not a novelty anywhere else.

This reminds me of when one student told me that her teacher told her that Western men have unusually protuding foreheads (eyebrow ridges) compared to korean men who are flat browed. I can't believe that they are teaching this shite in schools. Take a look around, I see neanderthal like brows on many Korean men--culminating in the ultimate Hong man choi and blonde dude in GOD.

I will confirm your big headness... You've a large head, my friend. I'll spare you the "So I Married and Ax Murderer" jokes. That being said, I'll be in Seoul in about a month in a half. You guys seem like a fun bunch to kick it with. I love painting things red, if you know what I mean. I'll leave it at that.
Chad.
