I will be leaving for Japan next week to get my E2. I have been here since the end of November and it has been a real ordeal. I had to send away for a police check and jump through various other hoops. I wanted to offer a positive nugget of information however. I contacted many recruiters while job-hunting. This is my second year, so I was fairly choosy about the job I wanted. I had a place to stay when I arriver so there was no hurry to take a job. A particular recruiter by the name of SoJin from OK recruiting has been amazing. Through this 2+ month process she never tired in her diligence or patience. I was a hair's breadth away from calling it quits and trying Taiwan instead, in spite of this SoJin and her staff assured me that things would work out, and they have. I realize that recruiters often get a bad rap, and I am sure that there are some bad ones, but I still can't believe how capably and honestly I was dealt with. I was never pressured and never had the feeling that I was being conned. Many of you will be approaching the ends of your contracts soon, and I'm sure that many of you are concerned about what is in store. I hope this little success story helps. |

I thought you would have to go to your home country for an interview at the Korean embassy. |

From what people have been saying, the interviews are only for questionable applicants
Though, I am not sure how the job process will work if the person is already in Korea........ |

I read the post twice and still don't see what the point is. Did I miss something? You are going into your second year and were picky..ok. A recruiter did their job and worked in a positive manner to help...I see. What is it for us to learn from this? Maybe I didn't pay close enough attention to the post. |

To the OP
Have you worked here before. I just thought you would have to go to your own country for an interview. |

Yes I taught last year, so I don't have to have the interview. I just wrote this little blurb because of all the doom and gloom (although true to reality, these days anyway) on the other threads. Thought maybe a bit of positivity might help some people who are coming to the end of their contracts. The new rules are cumbersome and aggravating, but ultimately surmountable. |

I'd reserve judgment on the recruiter until you're on the job awhile. |

You are probably right about that, but then how much control does a recruiter really have about how a job treats you? Anyway so far so good, they let me move in to the (incredibly nice) apartment early. I ran into my coworkers also and they all say it is a good school, so here's hoping anyway. |
