Hello,

I wanted to share something I find a little bit odd.

About 6 weeks ago I applied for a legal part time job, it would involve me getting permission from my school. It was supposed to start in October. I didn't get a phone call till 2 days ago. I was busy, she was busy, so we played phone tag for the past few days. Finally we connected briefly this morning and she asked me to go there this week-end because she wanted to evaluate my teaching. She asked me to go there on Saturday- yes today is Friday. I said no, but I could go on Sunday. She wasn't sure if this was good for her, and is supposed to call back again-

The funny thing is that I have worked for this company before, but under a different supervisor so I don't quite see the point of doing an evaluation.

My spidey senses are tingling, and I really think that taking this job may be more of a headache than it is worth.

Already I see poor management, and disorganization-

I'm curious has anyone else ever been evaluated with Part time work???

and what do you think- should I follow my intuition and pass on this- or give it a chance

Thanks for the advice.

Chonbuk: wheres the harm? i get evaluated from time to time at my present school, its actually helpful because the other teachers pass on their hints, tips and ideas.
i think its probably a sign that your part-time employer IS organised. If they were disorganised, they wouldn't care who they hired or how they taught.....

I's actually welcome some feedback. I managed to go a whole year with out it.

Just make sure the person doing the evaluating is qualified to do it.

Yeah, the evaluation isn't a big deal. If you want the job, and feel confident in your abilities, suffer through the scrutiny. I'm not sure that an evaluation will provide feed back, though. She may only want an oppurtunity to see you in action. I went two years without any critical evaluation and felt adrift. So yes, I too, think it's a sign of a good thing.

You guys are right, of course an evaluation can only be a good thing, and I have no doubts about my teaching skills or methods.

My concern was more about her lack of organization and how it would cause me a very large headache. For example yesterday morning she called to ask me to teach a class on Saturday- I said no but I could on Sunday, she said she would call back and still hasn't yet and yes it is Saturday now.

I know this is Korea, and things happen at the last minute, but if this woman is going to correct me from saying hand phone to saying cell phone, than I hope that she is able to conduct a business in a non-Korean manner.

Perhaps I am overreacting, I am still interested in working at their winter camp this year.....

Actually I think I'm really only venting, as I haven't had to deal with these types of frustrations since ending recruiting 2 years ago.

thanks,

Chonbuk

I've always regreted going to a "class" with short notice like this. If they are sooo disorganized that they can't give notice.. then how will it be working for them?
