I have seen people on here complain about everything from girls winter fashion to getting pushed on a subway to whining about drug testing. Most of the compaining seems to come from posters who have been members here for multiple years. My question is, why stay here? What keeps you living in a place where you have no respect for the culture, hate the people and are miserable?
This is not meant to be an attack on anyone, I really want to know the reasons. I assume (but hope not) that money is the main factor. |

| Excellent question. I'm surprised no one has ever asked it before. |

| Perhaps they can't get a job in their respective home country? |

I just hate the world. It makes no difference what country I'm in. Unless I spent my days in a beer garden, being served Guinness by Jenna Jameson and Chasey Lain, I'm gonna have something to moan about.

Some people (such as Koreans and Americans, most typically) have a hard time telling the difference between when others (typically Canadians and Brits) are complaining or just taking the piss.
Koreas a bit special, though, in that, on the one hand, there's no other country so desperate to prove itself and gain international recognition and yet, on the other hand, is so clueless about what does and doesn't impress westerners. |

| I want to gut-punch every a-hole that can't freaking label their threads. Only a moron would title a thread like a 3-year-old a**hat. |

Dave's cafe is like my five minute timeout between bouts of extolling the virtues of kimchi, Korea's four seasons, the globally renowned manners and politeness of Koreans and the attractiveness of Korean woman despite understanding my place that it would be improper of me to address one face to face. |

Oh please not again! Not another thread with some newbie poster complaining about the negativity on Dave's. These threads should be placed in one big sticky and any subsequent ones deleted. This is how it goes:
One poster asks the question "Why don't people who complain so much just go home?" (Which has Mr. Grumpy Senator, been addressed in probably 20 other threads since I have been posting. You might want to use that handy search button near the top of the screen)
Then you get all the usual responses-
1. They can't get jobs back home.
2. They can only date fat, ugly chicks back home.
3. They are criminals in some respect back home.
4. They are pedophiles that fall into the afforementioned categories but want to be able to prey on children
etc...ect....
The fact is Senator, ESL teachers bit(h and complain about their jobs nd DON' Tpack up and go home for the exact same reasons that restaurant managers, stock brokers, hair dressers, police officers, postal workers, airline pilots, company executives, and domestic teachers gripe and moan to no end but never seem to do something to improve their situations. |

| You'd think they'd get over it if they've been here years and years, huh? I'm still surprised by the number of long-termers I meet who just can't stop complaining about the same stuff. Just ignore them, don't hang out with them, let'em whine, and hold out for the good info you can find here a lot of times - even from the whiners. |

| Dave's itself was concocted by the Korean hagwon industry as an especially devious form of control to help keep foreign ESL teachers here and in line. |

xingyiman, I am not complaining about anything. I am asking a simple question.
So far, no one has answered the question. However, a few have insulted me. I did not want this thread to turn into the typical "mine is bigger than yours" BS, but I guess I overestimated the majority of posters on this site. |

What part of the word "whore" do you not understand?
I hope you are not teaching any reading comprehension classes. |

part of the reason many people are complaining is that the korean government is changing so many of the e-2 requirements... my beefs are the following:
1) NO ONE, including the government, can give a straight answer as to what the new regulations are... do i have to jump through all the hoops to renew my visa at the same job? i like to be able to plan my future, and knowing the rules is a big step in that direction... will they change the rules back after half the foreigners decide not to come back in march? possibly... roll the dice...
2) none of the new hoops we have to jump through would have stopped that perv from working here because he didn't have a criminal record in canada! plus, the VAST majority of teachers here don't use (illegal) drugs, despite the sparkling portrayal of us in the korean media (this is the only country in the world so boring that drug users make the front page of the newspaper!)
3) having to fly home is expensive!
4) why is what i consume in another country anybody's business? if i'm on vacation and smoking a joint is tolerated there, that's out of korea's jurisdiction and NONE of their business! i think other countries should start refusing entry to koreans who do things in korea that may not be criminal offences (most simple marijuana possession charges are dropped by the judge in canada these days) but are dangerous to OTHERS and frowned upon elsewhere like:
-drinking and driving
-running red lights, driving on the sidewalk, not using turn signals (reckless driving IS a crime in most places)
-smoking in non-smoking areas
-hitting your wife, kids, etc |
