I've recently switched my OS and installed a new Nero Program - Nero Express

I'm having troubles getting used to it, but one thing that has me stymied is the DVD burning part. It will only let me burn bup. vob. ifo files - and have never heard of them.

Most of the files I have are mkv. or avi.

Any thoughts on conversion options?

it's actually making a movie dvd from those files.

If you just want to burn them to save, then make data dvd. Many stand alone players will play avi files if they are encoded with divx codec. I doubt the mkv files will play on a stand alone player as they are hd, but who knows...

Ah, was hoping to have them as playable in a DVD player... not really caring if the quality is DVD or not... just want them playable.

I'd say the best thing to do in the long run is to buy a cheap Divx-compatible DVD player.

I have a few hundred DVD-r's full of avi. video files and I certainly don't want to convert them all to DVD.

So, I'll just pick up one of those 60,000 won Divx/DVD players.

So, those will play avi file DVDs?

Helps, but does anyone else have any ideas?

That's nice!

Although, I am a bit of an archivist and DVD-r's are so cheap now. I just burn stuff and put them on a shelf until I want to watch them.

But a USB port on a Divx/DVD player is a very good idea.

I got a NAVI NC1000 - it's hacker black with blue lights <oooooh...>

I basically just walked around space nine with a bunch of DVDs to try out (burned, store bought region 1 & 3) and then a file on my usb drive. some of the DVDs wouldn't play on my old player but worked on my computer drive so it was important for them to work on the new stand alone as they were my kids favorite vids.

The first shop asked 100,000 the second 120,000, and the third 80,000 - I found cheaper players, but they either didn't have a USB port or didn't play divx or there was something else I didn't like. googling the model number brings up this page where it goes for 198,000.

Anyhow this one works fine. A couple of files (heroes s2 ep 10 & 11) wouldn't play in the usb port but everything else has played that I tried.

Look for Nero Vision 4...this lets you make the dvd discs. Let me guess...you download the movie from the internet and want to make a dvd but nero won't let you. Right....so get nero vision 4 and then it will do it.

There is a nero vision 5 but that just means 4 is easier to find. I use 4 and it is stable and makes reliable quality dvd movies from almost any movie type.
