Hello. I bought a Korean brand computer, Jooyontech, and the Windows Vista is in Korean. Does anyone know how I can get it changed to English? The guy from the electronics store where I bought it, came and set up the computer and said that there was no option to choose English in the set up. Anyone know anything about this?

Hey Chicken,

Drop me a PM about the windows also, I am using XP and not sure if your information applies, but it would be nice to use an English version if you have any tips. Thanks

Sorry, to hijack, but along the same thread lines .....

Can you get Vista installed in Korean and change it to English?

I am buying a new laptop, and I'm wanting the windows OS to be in English. If it already has Vista on it, is there a way to change it to English without doing a reinstall.

Thanks,
Ken

You can't change Korean vista into English, you need a new OS for that. I use vista ultimate (the only proper version out there worth having).

I'll msg you shortly. If you have a DVD burner, that would also help greatly.

Chicken,

If the Ultimate you are using is 100% working (no need to activate etc.) send me the link too... if you are talking about a torrent, that is! Thanks!

There are two places in Itaewon that will do exactly what you want for about seventy or eighty thousand Won. The guy recommended strongly however (and I took his advice) to put English Windows XP on instead of Vista because he said that I would have trouble downloading or accessing certain things with Vista and I could always install Vista at a later date if I wanted to. It took him about three hours and he also set me up with region free DVD player, Norton's, Microsoft Office all included in the price.

You can change the OS language in Vista but only in the Ultimate and Enterprise versions.

http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/85e289ca-9fd8-4963-b06a-5ecc457006c71033.mspx?mfr=true

But it's not for the fainthearted, and doing it from a Korean OS if you don't know Korean very well will be sheer bloody murder.

I'm in much the same boat. Just purchased a laptop with Korean Vista, and of course no install cd.

Can anyone PM me the link please?
Also, I live in Jeonju, but I could easily be persuaded to make the trip to Itaewon for a deal like the one stated. If I can get a name and a place that would be great. Smile

get rid of Vista! It is making my life miserable as I can no longer watch internet channels I was once able to. Keeping a Canadian from his hockey is just plain cruel. I am counting down the hours until my tech guy comes to strip and flush this particular piece of ....

I'll have to post a warning about using Windows Vista in Korea. I recently talked to a friend who had fixed computers back home in America and he mentioned that most computers in Korea do not have a legal copy of Windows installed. So what that means is, unless you have a good firewall installed, Microsoft could put some spyware on your computer and then send a turnoff code to your computer if they detect that you don't own the Windows CD. Of course, my friend said that you could get another illegal copy of Windows if that occurs, but I don't believe in bandaid solutions.

To avoid that situation, you could either buy the Windows CD, and get Windows Vista in English. Or you could go to the bookstore and buy a copy of Linux if you don't want to shell out cash to Microsoft. And there should be Koreans at one of the nearby Universities who could help you out if you decide to do a Linux install. The only downside of using Linux is you won't be able to play StarCraft or Kartrider or those other games that they have at the PC bang, but then of course you could compile MAME and get thousands of other games.

When I asked my co teacher if the schools computer department could fix me up with english powerpoint , I was assured that powerpoint did not come in English and was a Korean program . And to think I dreamed up using the English version for many years ..thank you Korea for helping me see the errors on my ways .

Can anyone help me with a good place to download the korean language pack ?

Precisely. As a general rule, if it didn't come with an install cd, it was pirated.
That's why I'm in this pickle. If I had of received the install cd, I would just have re-installed it properly on my own.
I have an xp disc sitting right next to me that's looking mighty good right now...but I think I'll hold out for a little longer in hopes that someone saves the day. Wink
