Well done= rare
Medium=raw
What happens when you order it rare? Does it moo.
What I don't get is, say, at VIPs, they actually have pictures and confirm your order 2-3 times. And it's still wrong.... |

I have only eaten steak at VIPS once, and I had to send it back to cook it more. It might be a trend, it might not... |

I've been there 3 times-unfortunately my coteacher had to have hers sent back to be grilled more...I got mine medium well like I asked-overall I think their red meat is better than Outback. |

Sorry, I was with my coteacher all 3 times.
All 3 times, mine was exactly what I asked for 1 time rare, 2 times medium well
All 3 times, she had to get hers sent back --> medium every time, not cooked enough
Sorry about that. |

In reality, the garbage you're eating sat frozen in a container en route from AUS and can't be served well-done cause the quality of the meat is simply inferior most likely due to ice burns or the second-rate aussie heffer it came from.
I'd take a cheap USDA round top steak any day over the sh it offered here but thank god I've finally acquired a taste for pork.
A diatribe from a major meat eater in serious withdrawal ....

A couple of my friends like their steak 'blue.' I'd love to see how they would interpret that in Korea. |

The one and only time I ordered a steak at TGIFriday's in Jamshil (the one in the Golden Castle building) was 3/4's gristle. Both Sizzler and VIP's are better, in my experience. |

The last steak I ordered at Bennigan's came out raw. I had ordered medium. The waiter looked at my raw steak and said, "That is medium. If you wanted it pink in the middle, you should have ordered well-done." |

I'm sure that's true, but when you use the restaurant's own guidelines to order, you shouldn't be made to feel as if you were the one who made a mistake.
In my case, here is what I ordered:
Here is what I received:
And here is what I was told I should have ordered if I wanted the steak in the first picture:
Incidentally, if the second picture is, according to my waiter, medium, then I imagine rare that day would have looked something like this:

I actually managed to successfully order a steak cooked to order once by telling the waitress that I want it really well done, no pink, red, whatever. They brought out a done steak. I did find that the meat was extremely dry, although it tasted okay. I just had to use steak sauce to moisturize the damn thing.
And it is possible to have a juicy yet done steak. It's very easy, actually...I'll stick to homemade steaks from competent cooks. |

I have only ordered steak once in Korea, but I have ordered burgers from TGIF several times. It happened to me 3 times that the burgers were not well-done, and when I ordered the steak it was not well done.
I have no idea what's so hard about making a steak or burger right?
I mean I was making burgers when I was 12 years old.
I remember at one TGIF a few months ago ordering a burger, and it was so red on the inside. I was incredulous and asked if well-done means something else in Korean, maybe I didn't articulate myself, and they said it means the same, and they are sorry. I couldn't get a replacement burger, because they had no more burgers, so I had to order something else. The waiters were nice and stuff, but I was unimpressed that a major US chain would such things happening there.... As far as the lone time I ordered a steak, it was good, but it was still not well-done but somewhat close to what I wanted...
I think it has to do with the Pali, Pali, rush, rush mentality many Koreans have where they expect their food brought to you in the blink of an eye, whereas in North America they are between pali pali and the very slow European restaurants. |
