Has anyone ever heard of paying a small earned income tax at a public school? I am not paying other taxes because i am exempt but they say I have to pay a one time 40,000 won earned income tax this month.

can anyone explain?

Might be a municipal tax.

I think it's BS. Ask them to give you a receipt with the schools letterhead or stamp. Take it to a Korean person you trust to translate.

Let us know what happens.

WTF is "earned income tax?" There's income tax and residence tax. Resident tax is 10% of your income tax. That's all. So if you don't have any income tax (i.e. income tax exempt), there's no residence tax.

That doesn't even make any sense. How can you earn income tax?

Are you epik/smoe/gepik? Ask your organ grinder.

I've never heard of this tax.
